Rikky1...get down, now! Ok, there are a lot of things I want to say...so I'll bullet point them to make it easier to read:
1) First off, everyone here is dealing with this very difficult and complex disease, so luckily we all can provide some advice, which is great! I personally struggle with wishing I didn't have it and things were different (plus previous injuries being an athlete don't help). Like others have said, there is no way to tell what cures or what technology lays around the corner. Right now there is not a lot of evidence to state lyme can be eradicted complete. Will it ever be able to? Who knows. But here's the rub- the fact of the matter is there are many, many people who walk around every single day with lyme in their bodies as well as co-infections and lord knows what else, and are completely healthy. Why? Because their bodies are so strong, their internal environment is so strong and inhospitable to pathogens, that they cannot thrive and take over the body. My point is, once you're in remission, it is not a life long struggle to retain your health, it is your obligation to yourself to make your mind and body as strong as you can, that remission does not even occur. The benefit is that you simply take care of yourself way better then you ever have before getting sick; and I'm sure the benefits will greatly outweigh the risks.
2)My mom is recovering from 6-7 years of bilateral breast cancer. She is doing AMAZING. The point is, she will have breast cancer cells in her body, even 1 or 2 cells, roaming around her entire life. People everywhere have viruses and pathogens hiding out in their bodies for years and remain healthy, they are healthy because their immune system, gut, etc. is very healthy and strong and able to fight off the crap that is trying to make them sick
3) Besides antibiotics, are you doing anything outside of your standard western medical practices? Are you taking anything herbal, detoxing, changing your diet, reducing stress, looking at any possible methylation issues that prevent you from detoxing, mold, parasites etc? It SOUNDS like a lot, but in reality these are all issues that 99% of lyme patients deal with and have to address in order to feel better. Antibiotics alone will not cure you, period. Anyone who thinks abx will cure you or heal you of lyme is just sorely mistaken. That's like saying I have cancer, so pumping a chemical in me will cure me and I'm fine forever. If you listen to lectures by Dr. Jernigan, Dr. Dashore, Dr. Horowitz, etc. they all have pretty much the same principle in healing; it isn't the lyme bacteria, the co-infections, etc., that get you sick...something happened along the way that brokedown your bodies ability to maintain a health state, a solid homeostasis if you will. Like I mentioned, plenty of people out there have lyme in their bodies but never get sick
4)Remission is not a bad thing, that does not mean you won't feel like yourself ever again. There are members here who have been in remission for years, Traveler is a great example. We run the risk of getting sick when we fall back on old habits that made us sick in the first place; stress, eating poorly, not exercising, lowering our immune system, not sleeping, not taking any antimicrobials/herbals (if you feel you need to), detoxing on occasion. Lyme isn't the problem, it's our bodies that get out of function. We literally have trillions upon trilions of bacteria in our bodies, and guess what? The bad bacteria usually out number the good in today's modern person, but it's up to us to turn the tables and keep a large number of healthy bacteria kicking the bad bacteria's butts everyday.
Stay strong, don't lose hope, this isn't a death sentence. Life will go on, you will get better. You're going to have really crappy days when you want to give up and that's OK, just don't let it take you down. Think of this as an opportunity to not only gain your health back, but to you make it better then ever before.
