Rash

Hey there,

I posted the other day because I suspect I may have Lyme and co-infections. I have had several rashes, including one between my thigh and pelvis that lasted for several days and this one on my hand that lasted for several hours (image here- http://imgur.com/h42M5Fm). I also notice that my hands have small red dots on them after I get out of a hot shower.

In terms of rashes, I also have itchiness and occasional pain on my scalp, which my doctor thinks is folliculitis. I also get pimple-like things that sprout up on the left side of my scalp from behind the ear down to and even on top of the left occipital lymph node, which is swollen.

Anyone experience any similar to what I have experienced, or have any thoughts on it?

I would agree with Girlie that from the picture you shared with us, it looks like a Bart rash.

Where are these small red dots on your hands? I get them on the palms of my hands - usually the outer edge and the 'heel' of my hand. My doc told me that this combined with the super rough skin on one of my elbows shows signs of psoriasis. I use coconut oil and B. infantis probiotic strain to treat my psoriasis.

If they are on the back of your hand, can you share another photo of that with us? It could be one of a couple of rashes.

I would occasionally get those pimple like things in my scalp as well. Now I only get them when my body is heavily detoxing, so I have assumed that it was directly tied to my skin trying to help detox my body.

gfields - there are a few different abx to treat bart. These are the ones I know:

One is Rifampin - I am taking it along with Minocycline. Some take Rif with doxy, or Zithromax, or biaxin.

Some LLMD's prescribe an antibiotic from the Fluoroquinolone classroom treat bart, but they come with a "black box" warning because of the risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture.

Sometimes Bactrim is prescribed to treat bart. (I can't remember what it's paired with)

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Also, does anyone here have experience with the subcutaneous nodules associated with Bart? I have a couple of nodules in my chest and one in my foot. They are pea-sized. Is is normal to get them in those locations?

RhodeIslander - I had a nodule on my right foot - just above the 'big toe joint" and during lyme treatment it slowly reduced until it was gone.

Then I took a 2 1/2 month abx break (high liver enzymes) and after that break started on Rifampin and mino...and now the nodule is back...not as big, but still....
So, don't know what's with that.

I don't know if what I had was the typical 'sub-cutaneous nodules' associated with bart. Mine was quite 'firm' when I pressed it..

gfields - I had swelling on my right leg- behind my knee joint. And when I googled it...it looked like a Baker's cyst. There's a test you can do - have someone shine a light through - and if the light is seen on the other side, then that's what it most likely is. Maybe look it up...
I read it can happen if you have arthritis in your knee...I have had sore knee joints with lyme/bart...it's a reaction to the arthritis...or whatever else is bothering the knee.
My Dr. confirmed it was a Baker's cyst.
