Talk to me like a Newbie, need information about Bartonella?

Hi all,

Yesterday I drove my friend's son who is 16 to Emergency because he passed out in class. 2 years ago he was diagnosed with Bartonella and had some lymph nodes removed.

Doctors found out his heart stopped for about 10 seconds. A cardiologist will be checking him out more thoroughly today. Can Bart have any effects on one's heart? I know nothing about Bartonella. He has been very active in football, basketball, etc. and has no other symptoms.

Since we don't have any big hospitals in Southern Vermont my friend's son was transported to Albany Medical Center yesterday (it's either that hospital or Dartmouth in New Hampshire). I sat with my friend and her son when a doctor (training) kept asking lyme questions which shocked me! She really knew about lyme disease. I know they did a Western Blot (not Elisa) so they are checking him for lyme and the co-infections.

I have a feeling he still has Bart which is causing his heart problems. I only hope the doctors realize it.

Now I wish I had Buhner's book on Bart.

Hi and thanks again for everyone's input. Went back to the hospital today to bring my friend's son home and he is wearing a holster monitor. He also had a western blot done so we shall see..

Mike, I don't have a kindle (not yet as I am still catching up on all the gadgets!).. Hey, I just learned how to text the other day if you can believe that!

Anyway, I have been reading Buhner's site online and learning some things. The doctor at the hospital said my friend's son has Vasovagal syncope.

Tired now from a long day but tomorrow is another day!

yikes... I hate to say thiss but I actually think getting the lymph nodes removed isn't helpful. I think the lymph nodes are an important part of the immune system and important to clear the bart infection.

I hate bart... It relapsed on my 3 times already... Now I'm just doing a long stretch of antibiotics, now on the bulletproof diet, and taking what I think are all the right supplements. Seems to be working.

Just know if it's really bad... I'd start with the rifampin therapy which should always be in combination. Dr. M a leading expert in Bart treatment recommends clarithromycin used with rifampin. He avoids treatment with fluroquinolones as he believes they can cause permanent damage to the DNA inside cells.

I know you are generally against abx and advocate for a more natural approach, so the next best is Buhners Bart protocol using Houttuynia, Sida Acuta, and other herbs. But those 2 are probably the best choices for bart in terms of herbs.

LP, I was thinking what you said about using Buhner's herbs such as Houttuynia and Sida Acuta. But I don't know if my friend is open to alternative medicine. I think she prefers pharma as she gives one of her other kids Ritalin for ADHD and is thinking of getting her 6 year old boy evaluated for ADHD so he can be medicated. In my non-medical opinion her 6 year old boy is acting just like any other "normal" 6 year old...

Getting back to her 16 year old, this is the 2nd time he passed out so something is going on. I can only give her suggestions and the rest is up to her... I think he should stop sports due to his syncope cardio problem as I read about young athletes dying from this.

My son used to fall. Any kind of activity made it worse. He got to the point that could not walk unassisted even to go to the bathroom. He had to also crawl to go upstairs to his bedroom. I agree with rowingmom, any kind of sport will make it worse. My son started to have grandmal seizures and when we took him to the hospital, based on the monitor he was on, they saw sinus tachycardia--which I didn't realized it had to do with his heart and nothing to do with sinuses at the time. We took him to a regular heart dr. and they didn't do much since nothing was observed at the time. Problems with my son's heart would come and go and no one except me realized it's these infections that's causing it. I would hold his wrist and feel his pulse skipping at night, hear his heart pounding at times, although he was at rest or reading a book on the couch.

The second seizure happened when he walked around with a friend for Holloween. Falls would happen on his good days, when he will fool around and run, like a normal 10 yr old kid, playing with his siblings in the backyard. Any kind of sport may make things worse. I had to watch him any second because he started to fall down to the ground constantly, even when he could walk on his own. I had to be within a foot from him when he would go outside because I was concerned he may fall on the sidewalk and hit his head. I hope he can find a good dr. to treat him appropriately. My son stopped falling and having seizures 6 months ago, after we started abx.
