cd3764 - is it okay to heat water first (warm, not hot) and then add the tinctures and leave sit for 5-10 minutes before taking? I read that some (not all) of the alcohol will dissipate.

I'm thinking that it would be okay - as our stomach temperature is warm anyway??

A belated yes to answer your question, Girlie. I realized I should have been more clear.

The big thing is to not boil water containing fresh/dried herbs...

In his books, Buhner is quite adamant that the alcohol in tinctures is negligible.

However, for someone like me taking a total of 20 tinctures (many supportive), I must admit I feel a slight buzz/high for about 10 minutes after I take them. Since I haven't had a drink in over a year, I don't mind lol (I am not a big drinker but a glass or two of wine or cocktail every now and again was always nice :)

well, i am being careful. she will be on doxy starting in december. Doubt she only has lyme - not proven of course. I figured i would follow buhner's basic lyme protocol plus the doxy. If I follow the lyme/bart protocol, there are just so many herbs. I don't want to over do it bc she really isn't presenting as very sick - just has cognitive issues and extreme thirst.

i was starting with japanese knotweed and saw cats claw next on the list, based on the info from the link that traveler gave me.

so where is the most updated protocol listed? I also have to figure out how much to give her, since the doses are for adults. She is 12, but still.....

I believe you are quoting Buhner's now outdated website as far as his recommendations for Japanese Knotweed and Cat's Claw are concerned.

Not that Green Dragon Botanicals is no longer recommended but, as you've discovered, they only sell capsules..... and Buhner is now recommending tinctures.

There are differences among the types of preparation and a significant difference is the level of effectiveness due to how the plants' constituents might be available in one form or the other - with tinctures providing the most effective form of plant medicine. (this is all per Buhner in his "Herbal Antibiotics" book)

In fact, while I, too, bought Green Dragon Botanicals capsules, I soon learned about Buhner's newer recommendations so I bought tinctures and integrated the capsules until I used them all up.

To make one even more nutz, I learned via Mister Mike quoting Julie McIntyre (Buhner's associate) that Buhner is recommending a different strain of Cat's Claw now: Gou Teng which Montana Farmacy also sells.

So, I switched over to that lol This is all since mid-July ;)

Please be aware that not all herbal preparations are created equal and that's why Buhner lists recommended sources on his website and in his books.

After learning how to make my own tinctures ala Buhner's "Herbal Antibiotics" book, I can understand how variations in preparation can occur....and this can surely make a difference in effectiveness and possibly safety.

I've been battling Lyme and Co. for too long to take any chances and have decided to stick with Buhner's recommendations.

The most updated protocol is listed in Buhner's new book that is due out by the end of next month. As I mentioned, Mister Mike was given a headsup on it from Buhner's associate.
