What does Appendicitis feel like?

Hi there - I do not know much about appendicitis (thankfully...) but since no one else has jumped in, I will (bump your thread at least).

I always understood appendicitis to be pretty much an emergency get-it-treated-right-away-or-die type of situation. So hopefully you've been doing some more looking to tell what's going on? Personally I'd try one of the online symptom checkers or a nurse line through insurance if you have something like that. You can do that even better than I can for you, since I don't have personal experience.

But please, PLEASE, make sure!

I agree with PeteZa - go to an Urgent care center or Emergency Room to get it checked out. I had to have mine removed by emergency surgery because I waited a few hours (4) from when the pain got bad. By the time I had surgery that night, it was leaking and I had to be put on strong abx in order to avoid serious issues from the infection getting all over my abdominal organs. If it is appendicitis - it's a serious issue!

My sister's burst in the surgeon's hand as he was placing it in the emesis basin.

Definitely get it checked. But from experience, the pain is very sharp and comes and goes. It can make you nauseous and may vomit.

When you go to the ER, and I would do that rather than the urgent care because the urgent care can only send you to the hospital. They cannot do the imaging necessary.

Yes they can image an appendicitis. It is a CT scan, but you need to make sure they do it with contrast. That's where you drink the chalky stuff. Anything else and they are guessing.

I went to the ER they did all kinds of tests including a CT scan, then said they didn't know what was causing the pain but it definitely wasn't an appendicitis. The doctor said they could see the appendix on the CT scan and that wasn't it.

When I got home I read the report for the CT and it said they were unable to image the appendix. The doctor called me at home at 7 am the next morning and told me to go back to the hospital. I got there and they sent me right in for another CT with contrast. The surgeon even knew I was coming before I got there. The second CT definitely showed an appendicitis.

So ask the questions and make sure if they are going to do the CT that it is with contrast if there is any chance its appendicitis.

I have to disagree with PeteZa. You won't necessarily run a temperature. That would only be the case if it was leaking or burst.

If this has been going on for more than 24 hours with no relief you need to get it checked right away.

Sorry, I had couple rough days.

1. Thank you all for the comments and advice. I greatly appreciated it.

2. After reading some of your personal stories, I personally felt like it wasn't appendicitis. I didn't have a fever, I didn't vomit(although felt nauseous), and the pain wasn't a sharp pain.

After posting this thread, I gave myself an enema. Oh what we all do to feel better! :) Nothing but the saline came out after waiting 5 minutes. about an hour later my legs were shaking violently and uncontrollably. I had a very hard time trying to walk. Then I had a small seizure.

Yesterday, I slept the whole day. I didn't take any meds., supplements, or detox. Just too messed up and exhausted. Then I tried a suppository around evening. Nothing came out. Starting to wonder about bowel blockage. I know; I am also starting to wonder if I am a hypochondriac! :)

So, anyway I stopped taking Rifampin 150 mg. (2 a day), because I was drinking so much water and constantly feeling more and more dehydrated. My lips were shriveling on my face and it felt like my intestines and all the way up to my throat was extremely sore from dehydration. I Personally feel like the Rifampin is completely dehydrating by body, and have noticed my heart beating harder and faster. Maybe the heart thing is also from dehydration.

Today I started to talk again after going 8 days of not saying a word. I stutter bad, but at least I can talk! YAY!

I did have a small bowel movement today and continue drinking lots of water and lemon water to try and get things moving.

I am also glad that it's not appendicitis!

I despise seeing doctors, especially after being diagnosed with Lyme. If you even say the word "Lyme " they look at you crazy. That is why I asked about personal experiences with appendicitis. So I could see if my symptoms were the same as other people.
