Space Pirates - Fellow Martians

Just saw the movie, "The Martian," & several parallels seen & felt watching. Without giving away too much, in one of the beginning scenes, astronaut Matt Damon has an accident with a long metal antennae that pierces his suit.

I'm sitting there thinking of LD people who feel this type of pain all over their body on a regular basis (like a human voodoo doll). Many with air hunger, tho not having to deal with Mars atmosphere!

The astronaut knows to be cautious of plutonium radiation. LD folk, many also experience the body burning, as if radioactive exposure. And the LD struggle with simple physical feats, theirs without cumbersome spacesuits.

And the LD stricken, also feeling like "Castaway", on their own, fighting the aliens within; each day a game of survival.

Great movie-so these references are not to turn one off to this movie! Hope- is also part of the theme! Funny with the soundtracks appropriately including David Bowie. Sillysheep~why do I always now think of you when hearing Abba?

So with all, this movie did remind me of my fellow space pirates. May we all keep the hope & ultimately & happily survive.

Umm...hippie space pirate to you lol

You have no idea what you just reminded me of, Happyjo! When I was really having a lot of serious issues, I had met another lady here on this forum and we became what we called Lymie buddies back in 2007. We were both trying to get through treatments, both had very long standing infections, and had many of the same interests. This made it easy to get to know each other well.

As things continued to get worse for both of us, I think it was me that said first that I felt like I had been abducted by space monkeys (because they were so much more nimble than us) and experimented on. Yup!! We went there!! But that's because that's how it felt as we both continued to deteriorate.

The best part of this? That lady and I are still the best of friends today! I just talked with her on the phone this week! We went through near death experiences with each other on the other end of the phone line. We can still talk about anything and everything with each other, since as you know, having these infections gets you talking about things you would have never considered telling a complete stranger before.

I had intended to see this movie - but now I MUST!!

Same here - there are very few things that I share with my hubby about Lyme any more - that eyes glossed over look is much to telling! LOL!

But I'm so glad that you shared it with the rest of us!! I had a really good memory pop up from it!
