These are my DS 15's symptoms. I know he has bartonella b/c of rash, trying to get bloodwork accomplished to see if mycoplasma/anything else, but, he is complaining of pain in upper left stomach under his rib cage and that seems like it fits enlarged spleen.. this makes me worry about babesia also:(

right now the dr has him only on minocycline for suspected mycoplasma, my son herx's a lot, so we are going to try to slowly add in rifampin and maybe Zithromax. his herxing is mostly worsening of psychiatric symptoms (ocd, anxiety, insomnia, irritability) but also has some physical worsening too

do his symptoms fit anything in particular? babesia? he doesn't have air hunger...
anything that can be done to help with the enlarged spleen or help with the pain/lack of appetite?

First - I'm sorry your son is going through this...but I am glad you have found us here.

Regarding his symptoms - he could have Bartonella - with the dominance in psych issues - but that can also be attributed to Lyme.
Spleen issues are on the symptom list for Babesia...


I'd like to point you to the thread at the top of the page titled: "New to Lyme?...Start Here!" It's full of good information.
Something important your son should be doing - is detoxing. This is crucial - as the die-off of the bacteria produces toxins - that cause a worsening of symptoms (and also can produce new symptoms) - called a herxheimer reaction. Effective detoxing will help with these symptoms.
There is a list of detoxing suggestions in the aforementioned thread.

It is difficult to sort out the symptoms and know what co-infections someone has...sometimes it takes some time, along with trial and error with different antibiotics and herbs. There is a lot of overlap of symptoms with the three main infections - lyme, bart, babs - so it's often difficult to know for sure.

Your son is a lucky guy to have your support.

Does he have a Lyme Literate Dr. to treat him?
