Lyme Disease Transmission

I am really confused now!

I just read the thread that was titled:"Promising new urine- based test". If it is possible to test for Lyme bacteria in urine, does that mean that it's possible to transmit through urine? I know that urine is sterile. So is it possible for the Lyme bacteria to survive in this environment?

I wish that the public would take this disease more serious. It seems like if you personally don't go through this living hell it doesn't exist.

When I saw my LLMD, I asked if my husband should get tested? I was afraid that I sexually transmitted Lyme to him. She said "it would be more likely transmitted from a male semen". I don't know if she just said this so I wouldn't stress about it?

I wish there would be more scientific testing on all the possible ways Lyme could be transmitted!

What I am wondering is, if Lyme is in All the bodily fluids secreted by an infected person, wouldn't everyone have Lyme disease?
If it is so contagious, (example: toilet seat urine "sprinkling"). Doesn't it seem like everyone would have Lyme? Who could avoid this? If lyme is transmitted through saliva, I feel that there would be a huge outbreak. There are people that sneeze and cough in their hand and then touch items in the store.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, if It is transmitted through sex, mother to child, saliva, and so on... Wouldn't everyone have Lyme?

I know that it depends on everyones immune system and how it is able to handle Lyme. I Am not saying that it can't be passed from one person to the next in certain circumstances. All I am saying is there has to be more studies on all the ways it can be transmitted.

Ya I'd say saliva, tears, even urine, sexual secret. Urine is NOT sterile. It's just not true. You can get leptospirosis from animal urine which is a spirochete. Bladder infections etc, my dad got a bladder infection from a catheter... And it's
Chronic, he can't get rid of it now and just lives with it. I'd say all body fluids... It's too bad it's not shared with the public, and there are lots of people that got sick this way. When I first got sick there was quite a bit of resistance from other people as it is traditionally taught to be from a tick bite, but I searched the Internet and some people are arguing yes it has with other people. And there have been actual microscope analysis of the tears which found spirochetes... Some said saliva too. But if you got bit and your whole family got it just in a week? I think that would be questionable. I would think someone would have to have been infected for 6 months or even a year before they would be considered to be contagious with Lyme in their body fluids.

I think that no matter what if a family member gets sick, we feel respondible. If it is a child and they get from a tick, we feel we should have done a better job checking them for ticks even when you don't walk through high grass.

I was a Girl Scout leader and in one camping trip we had a girl who was bit. We removed the tick in less than an hour and counseled all the parents to check for ticks again. Throw the kids in the shower and check the all over. I can't remember the girls name. I feel guilty about that. But I could only work with the information I had at the time.

My co leader developed MS a few years later. I feel guilty now because I haven't been able to get in contact with her to suggest she get the Lyme test.

I had full blown symptoms before both pregnancies and I feel guilty that I may have given it to my son (anxiety, rages, nebulous symptoms). My daughter has no symptoms but I wonder what a major stress to her system might cause. And I nursed them both, although after the first four months it was all frozen.

As far as sex goes, I'm so sick it's not even possible.

Saliva, yeah? I think it it would be hard to transmit that way. There can't be too many live bacteria and we don't know how long they last.

I read an article recently about transition from one animal to another from the first uriniating on the ground. Some animals do communicate through urine. I had a dog I'm sure was infected and in the last years of his life he was miserable. We had him tested but he was negative. I spoke with my vet recently because our second dog did bring a tick into the house, he said they use the same two step process and he wondered about the reliability of the screening test. His daughter was just diagnosed with Lyme.

As parents (people and pets), loved ones, and responsible adults we do have a responsibility to help ensure that others don't get this thing. But we are each only one person. We also can't do more than current medicine allows.

Yes, I feel guilty about my children. I feel guilty when I feeling that I could do more about finding people I know but don't. There is only so much one person can do.

about 6 months before my mother died, I became convinced that she had been infected by Lyme but didn't say anything because she was too sick (and fragile) for treatment. Treatment likely would have killed her.

If you do the best you can for people including more for your immediate family. If you infected them when you didn't know you had it, take that guilt and turn it into something positive.

My license needs to be renewed and for the first time in decades I will be changing my organ donation status to no. People may not understand, but organ donation would put them at higher risk than not getting the donation at all. I would not want to pass this on to anyone else if I can avoid it.

I am just wondering?

If I went 27 years of being misdiagnosed, wouldn't I have infected, family, friends, classmates, and coworkers?

Through the years,I have shared food and drink with family. I have kissed boyfriends (before I got married!). Wouldn't someone have symptoms; besides me through out the years? Maybe I have a naturally weak immune system?
