Labcorp test positive for Lyme... have questions!

My dr called me today and confirmed I tested positive Lyme disease. I have a couple questions for anyone who can answer them. My dr wants to put me on the 2 week doxy treatment, I have an appt with an llmd and was wondering if I should wait to see her first or start the oral abx right away?

a little back history:
I was diagnosed with fibro when i was 19 (I'm 35 now). Ive dealt with chronic pain and tons of other symptoms since. Two years ago out of the blue i had this terrible shoulder pain and went to an ortho and he did an mri and of course everything came back normal. In January of this year I got very sick and was in bed for 3 weeks w/ fever, chills and severe body aches. Pretty much since then Ive been living life in y bed only to get the kids off to school and do dinner and thats about it.

So 2 weeks ago my dr was willing to order the EIA and Western blot after I requested it which I went to labcorp and did the test. I thought for sure it would come back negative and I would have to go to igenex to get a more thorough test. Well he called me today and sure enough I am positive.

I'm glad you are going to be seeing a LLMD. It would depend on how far away your LLMD appt is as to whether or not you should start the Doxy. It's likely too low of a dose for actual treatment, but it might help get you started as well - but we need a couple more details before we can suggest much -

When is your LLMD appt?

What dose is the Doxy - example: 100 mgs 2 times a day

You have 2 Lyme specific bands (23 & 30), so there's no doubt you have Lyme.

Remember there are lots of things you can get started on right away though anyway! Detoxing, getting your diet in a good place (if you don't already) and more. Be sure to go through our "New to Lyme? Start here!" thread to find more suggestions and helpful information.

Congratulations on finding out what was going on!! Now you can get started fixing it!

My appt isn't until the 28th. I was going to call tomorrow to see if I could get in sooner. As for the doxy I'm not sure on the dosage I haven gone to pick it up. I wanna say my dr said 400 mg once a day but I have terrible memory and retention so I could be wrong.

Since the two weeks of doxy won't get you to your LLMD appt. - you might want to wait until you see him/her. Otherwise you are starting and stopping, and starting again.

Maybe your Dr would be willing to give you four weeks of doxy to get you to your LLMD appt.

It sounds like you may have had Lyme for many years - so if you have to wait a few more weeks, it won't matter a whole lot - as far as treatment goes. But, I understand you want to get going with treatment now that you have a diagnosis.

The full dose of doxy is 200 mg twice daily...some Dr's start with 100 mg twice daily for a few weeks before bumping it up to full dose.

Thanks so much for your response. That sounds like a really good idea I'll ask my de if he'll do that. Otherwise if I do have to wait it's nothing haven't been dealing with thus far. There's just so much info I get really overwhelmed. So thanks again!

Sorry - I just had to get off the computer last night. Girlie gave you wonderful information though, and I agree with her. Especially about the part of taking a deep breath - we're here to help!!! Keep asking questions, we can point you in the right direction for good, solid information.
