Doctors to be Trained to Recognise Antibody-Negative Lyme

Dr. Alan MacDonald has opened a new crowdfunding initiative. His aim is to train physicians to recognise and diagnose seronegative Lyme borreliosis. (Seronegative means the blood serum is negative on antibody tests such as the Elisa or Western blot. Seronegative status should NEVER be used to rule out Lyme disease.)

Dr MacDonald writes:

"Funds donated to this outreach ... will be used to add to existing Validated Molecular DNA Based Methods...to be freely available to all physicians solely for use in their own medical offices. ... The goal is Tuition Free Education [TFE] of an international group of physician researchers ...[for] DNA assisted evaluation their patient population for possible Borrelia related health issues...

"The results of the TFE research studies here will be placed in the public domain, and will never be patented or sold for profit...

"Patients under the care of TFE graduates of this educational activity will be afforded the opportunity to submit tissues to a Research Borrelia Physician Consortium { RBPC] for consensus evaluations. Combined intelligence from a large group , RMPC of Physician researchers will be freely completed and sent to the patient's physician of record for the individual patient.

"The manufacture of DNA tools to specifically bind to the DNA of Borrelia which cause human disease : this cost is presently about $1000.00 per probe and is supported by voluntary donations. One probe detects one species of borrelia...

"...In the USA ,today, more than 100 subspecies of borrelia burgdorferi [Bb] and additional Miyamotoi Borrelia {MB] species are now held in collections of the scientists who seek to develop better test methods...

We (Forum Moderators) don't make the rules, we just follow them. That is our job.
It's not that it is SPAM, or promoting a product - it is a link promoting fundraising.

I understand that Alan MacDonald is doing great research - but we can not post links to the GoFundMe site.

And then under Guidelines, Admin has posted:

Now these are ADMINS wishes, not ours, but as Moderators, we are first rule keepers. So you are not allowed to disrespect the Moderators, or argue about the rules. You will have to speak with Admin if you don't like the rules - we don't get to change those depending on our own wishes or desires.

And just so you know - I'm on the committee to promote Dr. Alan MacDonald's work, but rules must still be followed.

Cutting edge research like this is done either in universities or in very well funded research environments of pharmaceutical companies. You simply don't have the equipment and the team to get reliable results otherwise."

We don't normally speak of Dr's on this site, but this answer requires it:

Dr Macdonald is in Florida. He used to be based in NY. He collaborates with Dr Sapi who is at Univ of New Haven and other scientists in US such as Tom Grier. He is "retired" now but has set up lab equipment at home and works from home too.
