LYME Vs CANDIDA update

Hi everyone!! Long time no see - I have to tell you that I barely have any time to breathe!! I started an at home ebay business 2 years ago selling toys, and it skyrocketed this year, esp now around Christmas - great money, but 0 time to do anything else but all of the other things I have to do....LOL

I just wanted to check in. I said I am putting everything on hold for this, bc it is important, although I would like to post an update on my daughter too, I wanted to write this first.

Since "healing" from lyme, I do have to say I did have some "leftover symptoms" which I have mentioned already to you. They included shoulder pain, tingling in my feet upon waking up and standing in the morning, and some minor muscle twitches.

All assumed to be leftover inflammation and nerve damage - not so sure...

I got sick then got sick again then again in a space of only a few weeks btwn october and december. I was sweating alot, getting some migrating pains, slight numbness came back in my arm, had some bladder issues like I used to - I totally freaked out. Got a blood test that showed my compliment c4a was elevated. I was like, OMG, lyme is back!! dang wrong - I must say that during this period, my cravings for sweets was almost uncontrollable!!!

thanking my dr from the bottom of my heart, she did a candida test on me only to prove that I had a severe case of it. the day after the test, the right side of my face got numb. That was really, really scary. But then i said to mysefl, well, if it is on the same side as the candida skin test, maybe it was related? YUP.

I started Diflucan right away. Took it for 2 weeks. During those two weeks, EVERY SINGLE LAST SYMPTOM was gone. My shoulder stopped hurting (and it hurt for 2 years!!), the tingling was gone in my feet (also happened every day for over 2 years)....all of the other symptoms that had popped up went away and I felt like a million bucks. Stopped the diflucan and started the nystatin tabs - started going downhill again. so I am back on diflucan for now until my dr and I figure out what to do next.

Long story short, I do believe that there may be a handful of people who actually beat lyme, but have candida, and think it is lyme, or the sort. The symptoms are so similar between the two. I really believe that. Bc I think the candida flared up the symptoms by causing inflammation. If it was lyme, my face would have remained numb and the symptoms would have worsened. Diflucan does not work against lyme, bc it is only an antifungal.

Am I correct here?? Input? Thanks!!!

Chapelle - can you explain the difference between Diflucan and Nystatin...how each of them works?

I am on Nystatin now - although I don't have the typical yeast symptoms...I do have some symptoms - that could be attributed to yeast, that I am assuming are Lyme and/or co's.
So, my Dr. has given me capsules to take - I guess more as a preventative since I've been on antibiotics for awhile now.
He didn't bite when I asked about the Pure Nystatin Powder...

Chapelle - what was the test for Candida that your Dr. did? I might ask mine for it.

But I want to make sure I ask for the right one.

So, I did a bit of reading - Nystatin is for yeast in the digestive track...but won't touch any in the blood...and Diflucan is for yeast that is in the blood?
Is that correct...anyone?
If so, would we not need both to fully resolve it? Or not?

yes, as cd put it correctly - diflucan kills systemic candida via bloodstream and nystatin kills GI candida. I was on both when I was treating lyme. I may need to be on both again. I simply just called my dr's office to order a new rx for diflucan and I will be speaking to her via email over the weekend as for the plan of action for the next few weeks.

ky007 - exactly - the same thing happened to me. it was my earliest symptom besides constantly getting sick. Now the thing is - I had candida before lyme (now looking back), so I don't know if the whole bladder issue I had was due to lyme or candida!!

I had uti symptoms too - but only frequent urination - my bladder hurt, but I had no burning upon urination. Every test showed negative for UTI, it was crazy

I am taking diflucan daily - but I took it for a good while when I was sick, and my liver is ok. have you tried D-Mannose? it is excellent for these uti/bladder symptoms. I would not take diflucan without Dr supervision!!

girlie and cd, I will ask my dr for the name of the test. it was a skin test - just like they do for allergy skin tests except they injected me with candida strains.

I have a question for you or anyone else that took Diflucan!

It is a little personal, but I am curious if anyone else had the same symptom.

Once I started taking Diflucan (1 tablet =150mg and I am only taking 1 a Week), I have noticed a "snot" like mucous coming out of my vaginia.

Sorry for being a little gross! :) Just wondering if this is "normal "?

I know Immuno Labs has a Candida home kit (so it must be saliva?) for $150, direct, no Dr needed.

My C4a test goes up with Candida symptoms, was 8500 once.

Nistatin did zip for me, nothing.

I herxed on Diflucan this summer, 200mg every other day, then tapered off, for about 2.5 months. Feel better now, no more gas factory LOL. I can have a beer again without that uncomfortable bloating.

Florestor makes me feel terrible (it is yeast) I think the hype for it is BS (so does my Dr). So I do regular bacteria probiotics.

Drs know less about this than lyme it seems.

astroman, i will fill you in asap - I will email my dr and get back to all of you as far as the name of the test! Mine was a skin test - just like an allergy test. they actually gave me an injection of benadryl to avoid the extreme itchiness side effect of the test, it worked, but that injection made me feel really weird for about 15 min following. did not like it, but it was quick to pass. I also ended up breaking out in a huge hive from the test as well. they called the following day to make sure i was ok.....

Girlie - it doesnt sound like you have candida......i agree, i wouldnt take diflucan if it is unecessary. I would do the test before treating something you are not certain about.

also girlie, and everyone, please bear in mind that nystatin only works for intestinal candida - if you have twitches and or nerve issues, nystatin will not help because it does not get absorbed into the bloodstream.

yes mr mike, i recall you have been having issues too - has anyone on the forum beat it fair and square? has pirouette? i remember she posted something a while back, i copied the post and haven't looked at it yet.

there are so many other treatment methods my dr has suggested, I just cant handle it right now. 2 more weeks of the craziness leading into christmas and then my schedule will calm down alot. I am also cramming in all of my CE credits - need 45 by dec 31st and only have 12 lol, yes i procrastinate!!

so I am on the diflucan for now just to keep the candida at bay, but i cant rely on it so much, i have to get off it soon enough.

Girlie - i have none if those symptoms either. In fact I crave salty foods over sweet. My tongue did get coated on abx but is fine now. I've never had stomach issues, but do get crazy all over itchiness occassionally at night. I read acne can also be candida and I do break out in hairline. Who knows.

Chapelle - if my doc agrees do you think a week trial would be enough to see any changes if it was candida?

Thanks astroman. Yes, mine are probably very weak! I ordered Nutramedix adrenal support a few days ago. Any other things I can do that are simple? I also drink Holy Basil tea which I thought was good for adrenals.

I am looking forward to trying a week of Diflucan to see if it does anything! Does Diflucan have any effect on Lyme?

I started to herx on Diflucan about the third week, and then for about one month, but I used it around 2.5 to 3 months.

Have any of you with fungal issues every eaten raw Nigella sativa seeds?

Astroman - well, I know I shouldn't take it without a doc but I have 10 pills here. I can't afford to go see my LLNP until after xmas and I wanted to see if I felt any improvement. I'm taking a dose of LDI this week so I will hold off.
