cd57 change after treatment

I was diagnosed about 9 months ago with lyme. At the time my cd57 was 50. I went through various stages of treatment but have been on pulsed antibiotics for the last 4 months. A couple of weeks ago they did another cd57 test, the result was now 4. Is it normal for it to bottom out while on antibiotics? Thanks in advance.

Hi momstmg - welcome to our community!

I'm sorry I don't have much knowledge about the cd57, except some Dr.'s use it to monitor progress - the cd57 should go up when you heal.

But, having said that, many LLMD's don't even bother with it...as it's unreliable.

Since you are new here, you might want to take a look at the thread at the top of the page titled: "New to Lyme?..Start Here!" It's full of great information.

One question I have - are you doing lots for detoxing? That is really crucial when treating Lyme Disease.

There are some ideas in the thread I pointed out to you.
Some popular detox:

- drinking lots of water (64 ounces) - and adding fresh squeezed lemon juice into some of the glasses
- warm epsom salt baths
- add hydrogen peroxide to the baths
- dry brush your skin prior to bathing
- Using a binder - such as Activated Charcoal
- Use Nutramedix Pinella and Burbur
- eating a healthy diet - free from processed foods, lots of good lean protein and vegetables.
- supporting the liver - using Milk Thistle extract, or another supplement.

Also, are you on a good probiotic?

Welcome to our community!! I'm so glad you found us.

As Girlie said, the CD57 isn't a reliable marker, as they don't know what all controls those values. Some very, very ill Lyme patients can have very high numbers on their CD57 tests while some that have only a few mild symptoms can have very low numbers, so we know that there is something else that needs to be considered, it's just that no one knows what that might be yet.

If you haven't ​yet​, it would be helpful for you to start with reading through the thread at the top of the forum titled,"New to Lyme?...Start here!!", as it is packed full of important information, symptom lists, helpful links and pdf's, how to detox when one has these infections, information on probiotics and much more.

Hello momstmg,

I was one manic patient because of my cd 57.When I was in so -called remission, after Abx. treatment and HBOT mine was 43.When relapsing it went to 16.And after 3 months still was 15.So, that being said because I will be treating with a clinic that most usually follow it, I will it have done in january.(But. I feel much better than in sept., oct., where I was almost completely not functional).

They say it is usual the cd 57 gets down with ABx. treatment, and I assume it will get up after you transition to herbs.(This is what I saw with many patients, one example is rowing mom s daughter here on the forum).Another thing that nobody tells us is that it might go down with inflammation, too, aka herxing.As you probably herx on Abx. it is logical.

I would urge you to monitor your symptoms, inflammation markers, to see progress in treatment.Are you getting some relief from your original sympthoms?(even if you do not feel well for now).

Please detox and take natural antiinflammatories while being on treatment and maybe ask your LLMD about your cd 57(personal experience with patients).
