you should not be getting worse if you have been in treatment for three years. to me it is quite possible that you have at least one other infection that has yet to be diagnosed or treated. if i had to make an educated guess, i would say bartonella could be at the top of the list.
The rule of thumb for lyme treatment is if the pt does not respond favorably to doxycycline within the first month (if that), then other infections, such as bartonella, need to be considered and investigated. do not know your history other than what you have just posted, so i hope this helps
I agree with your first statement - in three years of treatment you should not be getting worse.
But, I disagree that within a month of doxy you should be responding favourably. It can take longer than a month to see improvement. Yes, bartonella needs to be investigated, along with babesia, etc...but it's not always evident within a month.(especially if we've had the infections for a long time) But a second antibiotic should be added to the doxy after a few weeks - always need to do two or more abx unless the infection is treated in early stage and it's not disseminated.
