I'm not sure if any of you have heard of Lichen Sclerosis, but it is a skin disease that mainly affects the genital area, causing the area to be tough and turn white, making the skin susceptible to laceration. Most of the time, the lichen Sclerosis was most prevalent in older post menopausal women and researchers believe it is caused by hormone issues.
In 2011 I went to the Dr. With LS symptoms, I was dx with Lichen Sclerosis (I am a 26 year old female) the Gynecologists were baffled by the fact I was their youngest patient with this disease. Oddly enough it has cleared up (knock on wood) since being treated for Lyme. LS is thought to be an autoimmune disease, but I have been researching and it seems the Lyme germ could play a role in Lichen Sclerosis... Just thought I would share, in case anyone knows any more about Lichen Sclerosis and would like to add !

"Lichen sclerosus (LS), a chronic inflammatory skin disease that mainly affects the anogenital region, shares certain histologic and clinical features with acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans (a chronic form of borreliosis). This observation led researchers to propose Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (BB), the spirochete that causes human Lyme borreliosis, as a potential etiologic factor in LS."

Ahh thank you Traveler! I was going to share some links but they are the same you shared! I might email my findings to U of M, where I go that specializes in LS

My father has chronic Lichen Sclerosus. The dermatologist had to drain and clean out the infection several times.

The best advice she has given him is to keep it as dry as possible, to even blow dry the area whenever he has a flare up and to apply a cream so that the skin wouldn't crack and get infected all over again.

He has several symptoms of Lyme Disease, has been bitten by ticks numerous times a year for the last 20yrs, but is too scared to get tested...

I just wanted to be sure this information got placed in this thread as well, since MarieLS posted a very informative link in that other thread. The link no longer works, but I included it anyway. I don't currently have the time to do an in depth search for this information though.
