Do you treat Candida and Lyme simultaneously?

Hi, I have begun my treatment for Candida and wanted to know if you are treating Candida and Lyme simultaneously or if you stopped your Lyme treatment while treating candida.

Almost two weeks ago I added Clindamycin to my abx protocol and after one ill my stomach went crazy. Diarrhea for three days with spasms, burning pain, bloating and gassiness. I found out that I was severely infected with Candida.

Now that I am taking Fluconazole every other day, I have stopped taking my abx for fear that I may make the situation worse or that the GI symptoms will return.

If you are treating or have treated Candida, did you have to stop abx or did you do both simultaneously? Were you on synthetic abx or natural abx (herbs, etc).

It has been almost two weeks since abx and I am beginning to feel Bart symptoms coming back. Lyme symptoms I don't know since the candida treatment is resolving issues that I thought were Lyme symptoms.

I am taking two probiotics which seem to calm my stomach issues some.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear this, Healing!

I've not had severe issues with Candida (although I have battled it before), but if you are responding like that to just one dose, I would say that you should concentrate on treating the Candida for now. Once you get the fungal load low enough, you should be able to get back to treatment.

I hope you get this under control quickly so you can get back into treatment.

Hi healing 98!-

I am taking daily oral antibiotics for Lyme and co's. I am also taking Nystatin daily and Fluconazole (Diflucan) on Sunday only. I am currently taking 1 tablet 150 mg on Sunday (No Nystatin on this day).

I have been taking Fluconazole since April 2015. I take the Nystatin for GI Candida and take the Fluconazole for systemic Candida.

Please be careful with Fluconazole, because it can be hard on your liver. So far all my liver tests have been "normal ".

Thanks guys for your response. Little Bear, I am taking on 100mg of fluconazole every other day. The first pill did have a major impact and caused huge herx symptoms. Subsequent pills have not had such a dramatic impact.

How often are you checking your liver? Does Fluconazole impact the liver the same a Rifampin or worse? I took Rifampin for 6 months some months ago and I did OK. Are you taking any supplements to support the liver while you are on Fluconazole? Are you concerned about your liver even though you only take it once a week?

One of my doctors prescribed 100mg and the other doctor prescribed 200mg. 200mg seemed on the high end so I acted on the 100mg prescription instead. Do you think that a 200mg pill is too high of a dose?

I treated for yeast issues while still on ABX took Diflucan almost daily, still had trouble. LLMD had me take TBSP Apple cider vinegar 2 x a day and also took ADP by Biotics Research 2 x a day away from ABX. This was in addition to VSL3 probiotics. When my liver started acting up I added on LIV 52 Himalaya, another supplement that helped keep my liver healthy. Both of those I got through Amazon.

It is a very tricky balance with the diet also being very important.

I use to get my liver checked once a month. But since I am doing well, I now have it checked every two months.

I am not sure if Fluconazole has the same impact on the liver as Rifampin?

For liver detox, I am taking A-Inflam. This is a Byron White herbal liquid supplement. I take 5 drops in the morning and 5 drops in the evening. Total of 10 drops a day. My LLMD said that A-Inflam is good for liver detox and other things.

I have also been taking liposomal glutathione. I don't know if this also helps support the liver? All I know is that it's used for detox and inflammation.

Since I am tolerating the Fluconazole (150mg once a week), I am going to try increasing to (150 mg) twice a week. I will also try increasing my Nystatin. Both are used for overgrowth of Candida.

The antibiotics that I am currently taking are: Cefuroxime (Ceftin) 500 mg (two tablets two times a day). Clarithromycin (Biaxin) 500 mg ( one tablet twice daily). Rifampin 150 mg (one capsule once a day).

I was not able to tolerate taking Rifampin twice a day. I felt like I was getting very dehydrated, no matter how much water I drank. It felt like my intestines were dehydrated all the way to my mouth. I had a very dry throat and my lips were shriveled on my face. :(

Soon I will be starting Bactrim. And I will be stopping the Rifampin.

Personally, I feel OK with the amount of Fluconazole (Diflucan) that I am taking. So far my lab work has been coming back "normal ". If I ever do have an issue with my liver, I will have to look into something else.

Since I am not a doctor, it is hard for me to say if 200 mg is too much for you to take? Sorry that I couldn't answer that question.

From what I have read, is that some people have an increased risk of having overgrowth of Candida, from taking long term antibiotics or high dose antibiotics.

Personally, I hardly ever took any antibiotics during my life. I can only recall maybe three times. I think that I have had Lyme and co's that went misdiagnosed for 27 years, which lead to my overgrowth of Candida.
