Alka Seltzer Gold cause a herx?

I popped 2 tablets and an hour later I developed a sore throat and my head symptoms got worse than normal. It did the opposite of reducing a herx it actually increased my symptoms and brought out another one. Huh? Any thoughts?

Sorry that you were looking for relief...and the opposite happened!

I haven't heard ASG doing that...but we'll see what others post.

If your body is very acidic, then ASG could cause a herx, but I haven't heard of that type of herx happening.

same here, it is supposed to help when you are herxing - but you have to remember, everyone is different!! margaret may be on to something - are you on the lyme diet? bc if you are not, and you are eating alot of acidic foods, this may technically make sense to happen....

Wow! Sorry to hear this!

I, too, never heard of this type of thing happening with Alka Seltzer Gold. I know some people herx on immune-boosting stuff as well as Epsom salt baths.

Was it definitely Alka Seltzer Gold (that you have to buy online since it's not sold in stores)?

i got the alka seltzer gold from amazon.com.

i did take a pretty hot epson salt bath earlier in the day. it was probably about 5 hours from the time i finished the bath and 2 hours after taking ASG before the symptoms flared up. delayed herx from the bath?

girlie - I do know that is the core difference, not sure if any of the other ingredients are different.

rikki- how much do you pay? bc amazon is great, but sometimes the prices are ridiculously high.

This is most likely what happened and the ASG actually reduced your herx some. Sometimes the Epsom salt full body baths would hit me the next day, sometimes it would hit me within an hour. That's part of the reason why I stopped using them and went to foot soaks only - when the 'after party' would start was never predictable and it was only a party for the toxins - not me!!

I can't find ASG anywhere around here. Amazon is the only option many have.

Active Ingredients (in each Tablet) - Purpose:
Anhydrous Citric Acid 1000 mg - Antacid.
Potassium Bicarbonate 344 mg - Antacid.
Sodium bicarbonate (heat-treated) 1050 mg - Antacid.
Inactive Ingredients: Magnesium Stearate, Mannitol.

Thanks Traveller you are probably right need to be careful with the water temp. I had this silly notion of knocking out the bugs faster but the best approach is a slow go so you can function.

ASG is cheap on Amazon. Best deal is as an add on item so you have to buy other stuff to reach the $ limit then you can purchase it. $4.05 for a box of 36.

Also has anyone tried Kambo and found relief of pain, fatigue, and brain fog for chronic Lyme?

I've been using some Alka Seltzer Gold recently when I feel bad, and I do think it relieves my symptoms somewhat. I usually take between meals, but would think you could take it anytime maybe just space it apart from antibiotics.

I take it after I do a heat therapy such as an epsom salt bath or sauna. Usually I mix it with lemon juice and occasionally I will mix it with lemon juice and liposomal glutathione.

I feel it helps moderately. I like it after heat therapy as it contains sodium and potassium.
