My research continues to point to Babesia as the cause of petechiae (tiny red dots) but I've also read they can happen with Bartonella.
Babesia and Bartonella both infect red blood cells and I think that explains why petechiae can manifest with both infections.
Babesia are bigger and I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that petchiae do seem to happen more often with that particular infection.
There is so much overlap with symptoms. Quite annoying.
Yah that is a hard one to say for sure. I am positive for babs and bart.
I had the "red dots" show up when I used specific Bart meds such as rifampin. I actually still have them and am still only battling bart. I never had them when I was on anti-malarial meds for Babs.
My red dots are on my rib cage, spine, and occipital lobe on my head. Sometimes I get them on my legs, but very rarely. They look like this http://www.nutritionalhealthnow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/bartonella-rash.jpg
