Had an absolutely wonderful appointment with an LLMD at the Dean Center for Tick Borne Illnesses at Spaulding Hospital in Charlestown, MA yesterday. She spent over two hours with my wife and I. After seeing 21 MD's in the last year and a half it was validating to here an MD say I had Lyme and co's. We discussed the frustration of people not being diagnosed because of the CDC and the IDSA. They are diagnosing clinically and are testing a new blood test where they hope to test for 37 different spirochetes.
They have a different approach then most I believe. They do not focus on treatment of Lyme there. Instead they work with your current LLMD to formulate a treatment plan. If you do not have an LLND locally, they will refer one. What they do is work toward improving your symptoms through various disciplines. If needed they will refer you to a dietitian, physical therapists, psychologists etc.
She had 20 vials of blood drawn for a slew of blood tests. She has ordered a neuropsych test to determine how deep in my brain the critters have gotten and to help determine course of treatment. She also wants me to see a physical therapist for vestibular therapy, to improve my balance. She will speak with my LLND and my cardiologist.
All in all both my wife and I were very pleased and finally feel that we are on the right path. If anyone would like more information or to spaek with me, feel free to email me. I will update as we move forward. If anyone would like to become a patient it is an application process and it took almost three months for my first appointment.
