Is 5 month treatment for Babesia correct?

Someone said this in another post. I've been taking A-bab for over 6 months now. Should I be quitting?

People treat Babesia for at least 5 months since the life of the red blood cells it infects is 4 months.

If the patient still has symptoms, treatment continues. There are some stubborn strains of Babesia that can require protracted treatment.

What's going on in your situation?

I plan on continuing with Babesia treatment (along with Lyme and Bartonella treatment) for easily several months after I achieve complete resolution of symptoms....because I really don't know which infection might be to blame.

It took too long to get where I am today. I'm not stopping anything that brought me to this place lol

Well, I have periods of wakefulness at night. I can't call it insomnia because I do go back to sleep. When I first was infected I totally had insomnia so what is happening now doesn't hold a candle to that. I have hot flashes but no sweats and esp. in the evening til about 3am my legs feel 'electrified' or what they call the 'jimmie leg' and I find myself moving and tensing my muscles quite a bit. That is annoying. And I'm 54 so how much is menopause? Ugh.

What is air hunger like?

And, I wonder what your most recent thyroid labs look like. Lyme is famous for messing with endocrine function.

Have you had Free T4 and Free T3 testing? If yes, and you share the results here (with reference ranges) we can show you how to interpret them.

Too many doctors look at "normal" (aka in-range) thyroid labs and declare the patient "normal" when he/she is anything but.

Oh, thanks you guys. When I was originally tested for lyme the babesia showed up but not the bartonella. My llmd uses the zytoscan and that also said negative for bartonella.

At my appt. this afternoon he said he's keeping me on A-bab since babs is so hard to get rid of. Apparently that's also why he put me on cryptoleptis last visit. I thought it was just to help my brain like a supplement, duh.

He told me to try an epsom salt foot soak when I get the leg thing and see if that helps. I also picked up some black cohosh just in case that might help.

I can find my labs if I look a little bit tomorrow.

He did tell me something else that was exciting but I'm going to start a new post about that :)

Guess I am lucky, the combination of Artimisinin and A Babs has helped me a lot. With the addition of interphase plus my headaches subsided. First months of no migraines in years. Headaches and body twitching are my remaining symptoms and like others I would like to be symptom free before I quit medications.

These protocols and doctors visits are so expensive though, not sure how long I can continue.
