Babesia infects red blood cells and unlike Bartonella, when hatching out, Babesia ruptures/destroys the blood cells, so yes it's a causes anemia, but not any type of anemia, Hemolytic anemia.
/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemolytic_anemiaIf you were unlucky and your spleen was removed then it can be very dangerous/deadly, because that's where all the ruptured red blood cells get recycled.
If you have lyme and anemia and air hunger and day/night sweats, there are very very high chances you also have Babesia and as you know, taking lyme medication will do almost nothing to the Babesia because it is a malarial parasite and it needs antimalarial medication (plaquenil, malarone, artemisinin, etc... ) stuff u take when u have malaria...
Ignoring Babesia is one of the major reasons for lyme treatment failures. Some LLMDs treat Babesia if you have positive lyme tests just from the start, because the risk of failure is very big if you dont, and tests are really bad so you cannot really rely on the fact that the guy does not have it.
Dr. H from NY is an expert in Babesiosis, so always good to watch his presentations for informative purposes:
