Hi everyone,
How are you?
Im panicking after getting my lab results for band 41, etc... I
am in no health to even carry a child but I was wondering if anyone was able to successfully have a HEALTHY child after Lyme is under control? Did he or she develop developmental issues or learning disabilities? Any Add/ADHD? Autism? Downs Syndrome? Any diseases? I'm so nervous that I'm not sure I should ever have children even though we have been talking about it for 7 years.
It makes me sad that I might not be able to have healthy child. I don't want the child to suffer for life due to my selfishness.
PS I tested positive for EBV I wonder if that affects the fetus as well and causes the aforementioned.
I am emotionally and mentally fragile after seeing my lab work I can't help but sense doom.

If you are talking about after having healed from Lyme and having a healthy baby, we have a Moderator (Opugirl) who still comes back once in a while (when life allows!) that had a healthy baby shortly after she healed! She actually had concerns that she was relapsing and found out she was pregnant instead! Talk about a happy surprise!!

And, in case that's not enough to lift your spirits, just because a woman has Lyme - even long term chronic Lyme, isn't a guarantee that her children will have it. I had been infected for 13 years when I had my first child, and then I had a second child. It really did a number on me, and although my kids did have a few health issues (food allergies- but not really severe, and ear infections with the other one), they are very healthy adults. I was a long way from getting a diagnosis even at that point in my life.

EBV isn't generally enough to cause issues either, and you can take meds to keep it in check should it be a concern. Just be sure to get a good OB/Gyn to guide you through. If you happen to find a Lyme literate OB/Gyn, that would be even better!

I cannot tell from your post- are you currently pregnant? (If you feel comfortable sharing, of course.)

My sister in law has chronic lyme. She stopped Abx treatment after 1 year to get pregnant. She did not take any antibiotics while pregnant. I am NOT Advising you to do anything or not do anything, just sharing. The baby, my nephew, was born perfectly healthy. She does not breast feed, she does milksharing.

I am 31 and just starting treatment and I can get down when I think about it all....but there are a lot of success stories. It's not all doom!

Thank you for the responses. I am not pregnant. Have not been able to get pregnant for many years but now I think this is all related. I would like to get pregnant next year or whenever I am "healed"
After seeing my labs, my mind just went wild thinking about how doomed my future is and the possibility of not having kids by choice to not spread this misery to them.

I hope after talking to an LLMD the doom will subside.

This support group/forum has been a wealth of knowledge and everyone is so supportive.
I hope one day to be able to be on the helping end for others!

I have been looking everywhere for someone asking this question. I am new to the diagnosis too and still waiting to see a doctor but was planning to start a family before we got these results. I am newly married and would love to have a baby but I too am terrified to know that my body may not handle a pregnancy and the possibility of passing it to my child is terrifying. That being said I have an autistic child and he's an unbelievable blessing but if I were to get pregnant knowing that there was a risk of my child being less than 100% due to something I had or did then there would be tremendous guilt on my part.

Best of luck. If I get in to see my doctor and ask the questions you are asking I will be sure to let you know what I am told! I was told by my gynecologist that she would much prefer I check with the LLMD before trying to become pregnant as she was in no way aware of how it would or wouldn't affect the pregnancy or baby. An LLMD gyn/ob would be a God send!!

Yes, discuss pregnancy with a LLMD...

I would treat lyme disease first, and then once healed plan for a baby.
Lymehater - you aren't doomed... you can just postpone the baby plans for a while.

Hello lymehater,

I did have a healthy baby boy in 2011 while being treated for Lyme. His cord blood tested negative for Lyme. I was in treatment when I got pregnant and took abx during my whole pregnancy. I decided NOT to breastfeed him just because I did not want to chance it. He is now 4 and not showing signs of Lyme. Totally healthy and right on track.

I passed Lyme to my daughter who was born in 2009. I did not know that I had Lyme at the time and was obviously not in treatment.

My LLMD was great providing me with abx that was safe for me during pregnancy. My OBGYN was aware of the abx I was on but really did not believe it could be passed so I never much discussed it with her.

My daughter was treated for 3 years and has been off meds for over a year and doing well.

Good luck to you. Get yourself healthy first - it is possible to have a baby after Lyme.
