There can most definitely be false negatives for the sole and simple reason that coinfection tests are only available for a few strains of Babesia and Bartonella when there are hundreds....and new strains are being discovered every few months.
Therefore, a person can test negative for, say, Babesia Microti but still have a Babesia or Babesia-like infection.
