Two Initial Antibiotic Treatment Options for Lyme?

In general, of the following two treatment options for Lyme (plus Bartonella and Babesia), which have you found (or think) is more effective?

Combination Mepron, Rifampin, and Doxycyline to start?

or

Doxycyline to start for 30 days, followed by the addition of Flagyl for Lyme. Then separately treating the co-infections after treating Lyme?

I think I would do babesia (mepron) and bart (rifampin) separately. I couldn't imagine having a double whammy herx....


I haven't treated for babesia.

I have only treated for lyme,and now bartonella.

Do you appear to have an obvious dominant infection? Do you have more babesia or bart symptoms?

I have neurological symptoms and fatigue, so it could be either.

mino, cipro and tinidazole. very serious neuro combo.

not sure about babesia, i dont think i have it, but llmd still prescribes me artemisinin...which was also found recently active againat borrelia

mino really helped my neurosymptoms. After 9 months of lyme antibiotics ( doxy, zith, amoxy,ceftin, biaxin, tini pulsed) and then a 2 1/2 month break due to climbing liver enzymes - I still had some neurosymptoms.

Pressure in my head - behind my eyes, off-balance, tinnitus, after the Mino was introduced...they started to get better, and continued after I added rifampin for bart (not sure if the rifampin helped..or it was just the mino)

I was only on doxy for two months, though...not long enough to give it a fair chance.


I don't like the risks attached to the Cipro.

everyone is different. i was lab positive for lyme and babesia but i do have bart given my latest reaction to abx targeting it.

here's the kicker. i treated for lyme/babesia first using mepron/zithro/cefdinir/artimisiae and then went to cefdinir/tinidazole which really knocked out the lyme i think. tried the first combo again without cefdinir for recurring symptoms for babs but it looks like my dominant symptoms were bart all along so have to be careful with relying too much on lab results.

i would treat lyme along with babs or bart first and if you are making good improvement stay with it if not switch up to go after the other co-infection.

babs or bart can cause many overlapping symptoms so medicines and your reaction to them are important signposts for what's effective.
