Hello

do we need a prescription/Doctor referral for igenex testing and does it test for coinfections along with lyme?
Whats the cost of igenex testing and Does insurance cover it
As i want to get the igenex test done for my wife before going to LLMD

You can contact Igenex directly and they will send you a "kit" (2-3 days) for the blood work and there is some paperwork. Or you can request your LLMD to order an Igenex test.

There is a place on their form for a doctor and his "number" to be inserted. You will have to have a doctor sign.

Then you go to a lab and have the blood drawn. The time I checked the lab had to do some type of spin on the blood before they shipped it to Igenex. See if this is still the case by calling Igenex. Most reputable labs can do this, if it is still part of the process.

Do not do this on a Friday. You do not want your blood sitting in a shipping warehouse because there are no deliveries on the weekend. The test results will be finished in about 3 weeks.

Oh and YES, they can test for co-infections. You will pay extra for this and it is not entirely reliable.

You will have to check with your insurance to see if this test is covered. Igenex will not bill your insurance. You will have to pre-pay and then settle with your insurance.

This is a page you might want to print out for instructions to the lab you are using. This tells them which ones spin and how much blood, etc.

That is the one that most of us get.

So...you do need a Dr. to sign off on the lab req - but it can be any Dr. - even a chiropractor...or Naturopathic Dr.
To get mine done..I wasn't sure who I'd be seeing to treat..but I just found a ND who was wiling to do the test with a consult appt.

Yes, you do need a doctors signature but there is another option.

If you don't have a doctor to work with this allows you to get the testing anyway. I give this information because we can't always get a doctor to support us.

I wouldn't get the co-infections. The two most common Babesia and Bartonella rarely test positive. Usually, they are diagnosed clinically and if you read enough threads there are some symptoms that are distinct. For example, drenching sweats are Babesia. Pain on the soles of your feet are Bartonella (granted I only got this symptom after 30 years but we all get symptoms in a different order).

Hi all! I'm a newbie here, so i'm still getting used to the forum life! :) I got the entire test done (including the co-infections) and the cost was $500 for me. I didn't even try to submit it to my insurance (as I have state insurance and I received a negative on the standard test, so i was assuming they wouldn't pay for it). My results were "equivalent".

praying4patience if you can post your results someone here will tell you what they mean. Many times a test will say we don't have lyme but there are pieces on that test that say we do.

Do you have symptoms? You must to have paid that much for a test.

Please post it so it can be looked at.

Both my husband and I had a ND sign ours..mine in 2014, his in 2015...so unless it's recently changed...

I thought I made another post so I'll repeat it.

They also have an option to have one of their Functional Medicine docs go over the results with you so that you know what they mean. It's like an extra $30, Might be worth it for some tests, but for the Western blots, there is probably more accurate information here on the forum. The moderators and some of the veterans have a lot of experience reading the results.
