We now have scientific evidence of biofilms with Lyme disease!!! For anyone that says to you that there is no such thing as biofilms, we now have a scientific article (thanks to Eva Sapi!!) that we can point to!

"...We recently identified a novel morphological form of B. burgdorferi, called biofilm, a structure that is well known to be highly resistant to antibiotics. However, there is no evidence of the existence of Borrelia biofilm in vivo; therefore, the main goal of this study was to determine the presence of Borrelia biofilm in infected human skin tissues. Archived skin biopsy tissues from borrelial lymphocytomas (BL) were reexamined for the presence of B. burgdorferi sensu lato ..."

" In summary, this is the first study that demonstrates the presence of Borrelia biofilm in human infected skin tissues."

Excellent, Trav. Thanks for sharing! I've almost missed your post !

It's both Dr Sapi and Dr MacDonald on the paper.

So now, with Dr Sapi showing in vivo biofilms and Dr Zhang showing biofilms are barely destroyed by a combination of specific antibiotics that are not even used in treatment of lyme disease, can someone from CDC/IDSA care to review these recommendations about treatment ?! Now it's a good time because they are offline. What if we bring them back online with a new section called "Chronic Lyme" ?

No, im gonna tell you how this is going to change... notice that in Sapi's paper there is a note about patients used in the study:

"All six patients were female (average age = 33 years) from endemic areas of Borreliosis in Austria with a rate of positive serology in the population between 30 and 60%."

So, probably when 20-30% of the US east coast will have this, maybe there will be enough people during those lyme protests in DC and some heads will start to roll...
