Extreme migraine headache- herx or Lyme?

Hello,

For the last 48 hours I have been experiencing a severe pressure headache/migraine with stabbing pains that are migrating around my head and most pressure is located on my forehead ,and behind my eyes. I was diagnosed six months ago and have been on antibiotic treatment. I haven't changed my antibiotics in awhile, so I don't think I would be herxing from that. However, I did have acupuncture on Thursday and a cranialacral massage on Friday. I took a salt bath after each, but could they have caused a herx? Or is this Lyme, Bart or babesia flaring up? I have a hard time distinguishing between Lyme flare ups and herxheimers.

A flare is a herx that, when over, results in more bacteria alive than before the flare. Obviously you cannot notice this during the herx nor even immediately after, because it will always go away and you will feel better afterwards. But with flares, on longer term you will notice you are getting worse, more bad days less good, more symptoms, etc...

A flare/herx is just a fight, you cannot tell who's wining while the fight rages on, but if there are more enemies standing after the fight than before, then you are certainly not winning ...

Hope this helps, this is how i see it. Your symptoms are suggestive of flare/herx by Borrelia and/or Bartonella. Maybe you can share your treatment plan ?

It's entirely possible that either/both the accupuncture/massage brought on a herx. Have you increased your detoxing?

Ironically, I was thinking Babesia when you mentioned pressure behind your eyes... Maybe it's time to switch up your treatment protocol? What has your LLMD done for treatment thus far?

I'm currently taking azithromycin, probenecid, Bactrim, and amoxicillin. Nystatin to keep candida under control. I also take milk thistle, andrographis, artemisia, Stephania root.

I have been detoxing since it happened with salt baths, skin brushing, and warm lemon water all day.

So I'm confused- I thought a herx indicates that spirochetes are dying. It sounds like the massage and acupuncture released toxins/spirochetes (dead and alive) and now I need to get rid of them? If so, then should I not do acupubcyure or massage because I certainly don't want to get worse or cause a flare up eg more spirochetes and symptoms.

Kickin'Lyme acupuncture can stir up the bugs and cause a herx - most definitely. I think acupuncture can stimulate your immune system to help you kill spirochetes and it can also stir up things to help you to get rid of toxins. To me it is a double whammy. It is a treatment to get your qi in order and to do that some of those bugs were in the way. I could not go for acupuncture because it was too much for me to handle while also doing treatment. Some do fine. Maybe you are like me????

I also was fine with a massage immediately, but the next day I did not feel well. I was not in treatment when got my massage and I swore he made me worse. I had no idea what I was doing. I just thought it would help my sore neck and ringing ears. I have not had a massage since.

Just remember that we are all different and no one reacts the same to any protocol. If you can handle it, both are good for you unless they make you so sick and you cannot function. However, a lot of die off can be just as harmful as a lot of live bugs. Hard on your body.
