Im on month 3 of antibiotics and celebrex. I read online of many people getting floxed by cipro. prior to my illness i suffered many urinary and ear infections always took cipro. How can i differentiate between lyme and cipro toxicity when symptoms are so similar

What are your symptoms doing - are they quite constant and in the same place every single day? Or do they move around a bit and have varying amounts of intensity?

Being Floxed is an injury, so the symptoms will not have an ebb and flow to them like a Lyme infection. Now, a Lyme infection that has been allowed to go for a while without treatments can produce such symptoms that don't seem to have any variance (I was that way, constant pain levels were really high, constant muscle twitches & spasms, and more), so you may need to treat for Lyme just to be sure that you don't have it and you are only dealing with being floxed.

I would encourage you to keep a very detailed and highly descriptive symptom journal for a few weeks. I'm sure you will begin to see patterns that will tell you which it is.

Traveler, i have constant pain, but some days its worst. All my tendon insertions are in pain, high crp, high tsh. no other test are positive. If i do have lyme i think maybe since 2013. Its so depressing not to know what is causing your pain and devastating your life out of nowhere. I just cant stand it anymore. I wish i could stop all this. I pray and God is not listening. I have lost all faith

ROXY - did you have the tendon pain before you started the Cipro?

There are other antibiotics you can take - without the tendon injury risk. Are you treating Bartonella?


i understand what you're saying. I've been on antibiotics for about 15 months and while some symptoms are now gone...many are sticking with me...and I don't know what's active infection...or just nerves that need to heal.

Girlie just asked what I would have.

Lyme can create an incredible amount of pain for some of us, especially once it's hit our nervous system and combines with Bartonella. That can create some of the worst pain - comparable to post-surgical pain according to a couple of surveys I've seen.

And it may not be that God is not listening. Maybe it's time to change something instead.

I took cipro in 2013, 2014 before being diagnosed with lyme in nov 2015. i havent taken any for the lyme. And since im neg on igenex lab test, clinically diagnosed only. Im afraid that im not diagnosed correctly.

I think even if you had the tendon pain prior to Cipro, I would consider talking to your Dr. about an alternative...otherwise you won't know if the pain increases - if it's a herx...or if it's caused by the Cipro - as in a side effect.


I've always had a lot of pain...(with this disease)

I agree with Girlie about talking with you LLMD. But do realize that clinical diagnosis are actually fairly accurate (when done properly) with these infections. You should try this and see where you score:

Ok - so you're not on Cipro now...and haven't been since treating lyme?

So, now I see that's why you're having difficulty knowing what has cause the tendon pain...was it from the Cipro...or did you actually have lyme back then before you were diagnosed.
