Hi there!
I would like to ask a quick question: I am experiencing massive worsening lately and I am trying to figure out the cause as it is not usual for me!
New symptom: spleen pain! My spleen hurt (upper left quadrant of the stomach under the rib) and is getting worse. Can this be a symptom of lyme or babesia? What do you think of it!
Any responses will be appreciated!!!

I vote Babesia. So sorry you're dealing with this!
Buhner recommends 1/2 tsp 3x daily Dan Shen (Salvia Miltiorrhiza) for that exact symptom.
Dan Shen has other benefits as well:

Thanks! Yes it fits into the picture. But what I am afraid of is what different: I got a campylobacter infection in November and it was terrible! The symptoms were the same that I am experiencing right now! Then 1week of ABX it cleared, then relapse. After this I started the ABX course for lyme (6-7weeks). Slowly progressed and eventually symptoms gone! And now that I now that I do not take ABX these symptoms hit back!
And it always starts with spleen pain. So, my second guess would be that the original campylobacter persisted in the spleen (spleen abscess?) and now it spreads once again. I am confused now...
"Good" to know that babesia can also cause spleen pain! Is this 100%, or is it common with babesia infection?

I'd have to re-read Buhner's book that addresses Babesia for the specifics of its impact on the spleen.
All I do know is that the spleen is part of our immune system and Dan Shen/Red Sage/Salvia Miltiorrhiza supports the spleen.
Regardless of what is causing your symptom, the herb stands the chance of helping you.
There are a few ways to beat infections - your immune system takes care of things, abx/other killer stuff do their thing...and/or you make your body inhospitable to the organism.

Hi!
I want to chime in with my experience with spleen issues.. In 2013 I had mono which caused horrific pain/ swelling in my spleen. It eventually went away although not altogether. Fast forward to last year and it was back with a vengeance. But negative for EBV/mono. I had a CT scan done which showed cysts on my spleen and liver but 3 doctors said that's normal?! Which I thought was odd considering the pain prevented me from eating, sitting, or breathing normally. This was all before my Lyme diagnosis, btw.
After searching for a doctor in CFS because that is what I thought I had, I found one which is an LLMD too. Although that meant nothing to me at the time. I waited 6 months to see him and in the first 5 minutes he looked at my scan and said "Those are Lyme cysts". Although I had been tested 3 times in the past, he ran a culture test and sure enough chronic Lyme 35 years in the making.
However I tested negative for Babesia so IMHO I'm not positive it could be that. It could be anything. Have you had EBV? That virus loves the spleen. Maybe when you contracted campylobacter it damaged your spleen and the Lyme bacteria took over?. Like others have mentioned Buhner says it's a favourite organ for them. And our spleen has a tough and important job and if it's damaged or in poor health I think opportunistic Lyme can really do a number on it.
Like you my spleen pain went away on ABX but is back since I am off. I am trying to tackle this with herbs and in fact just ordered a big bottle of Dan Shen or Red Sage. Red Root(different herb) helped me during mono with the actual pain. We'll see how it goes. I am contemplating natural cyst busters too but may take things slowly as I don't do well on a lot of stuff.
Sorry this is so long, lol! But I hope you find some answers and especially some relief soon!!

Here's info on Red Root and spleen. Again, not the same as Red Sage Root/Dan Shen :)

As TrialbyLyme says, red root is a very good spleen and lymph protector. Especially if you have Babesia it is very useful, but also with Bartonella because of lymphadenopathy.

Red root and Smilax are good for spleen, but make sure you check with your physician, it could be pancreatitis.
