Important news: delirium from abx

I'm pretty new to Lyme so this may be common knowledge around here but it was news to me and I see lots of complaints about these side effects and Lyme so for me yet another thing to worry about with DK and Lyme/babs. I'll be bringing this up at next week's appointment.

Exactly - I was in a very severe state of delirium during points in my treatments - and only the first time (2007) was it caused by any abx - but my doc never said a word to me about detoxing and it was before it was a "thing" among Lyme patients. I had to find out the hard way just how important it was for my body.

Most of us know that we have to detox now.

But, even while in treatment from 2010 -2012 with herbs exclusively used, I had states of delirium set it during the times I was herxing quite a bit. As long as I recognized what was going on and increased my detoxing, it would eventually clear.

I do find it amazing that so few doctors still understand the need for detoxing - especially LLMD's/LLND's.

I understand the challenges of treatment...including detoxing.

However, once a person gets in the routine, it's really quite easy.

I dry brush before every shower and end every shower with a cold rinse. I wouldn't worry about DK not taking a full epsom salt bath. There are no tubs in my house and I never managed to take my foot bath out of the attic. My shower routine leaves me refreshed and invigorated so it must be working ;)

I used to take Alka Seltzer Gold twice daily no matter what (this was when I was still herxing).

There are a large number of supplements we can take that help with detoxing and I take many of them -some are bit hard on the wallet but easy to incorporate into life.

Burbur and Pinella got dumped in the same glass I use for my tinctures and I take them 3x daily.

Kefir is part of my lunchtime smoothie (something I've been doing since 2011). In fact, smoothies are a great way to get "good stuff" (I put chia seeds or ground flax seeds and coconut oil in my smoothies along with gelatin (great for collagen repair)

Exercise helps so I would encourage any activity DK might want to do.

Once something becomes part of our routines, it's much easier to keep up with it. If nothing more, dealing with these infections have helped me become more creative with maintaining healthy habits.

DK will only benefit from maintaining an effective detoxing protocol for life. Thankfully, most people don't need to detox at the level we do but, everyone is exposed to easily 300 different chemicals daily. Therefore, doing things to detox even when feeling well just makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for the encouragement and additional ideas. At one point I had a detox chart for DK - may need to pull it out again. Between work, family stuff, school, meals, meds etc DK has to take ownership. DK is really good about detox when feeling awful but harder to continue when feeling better because DK lives in the moment ;) DK loves sports and physical activity when feeling well so that's a plus.

I already put Alka Seltzer Gold on my Amazon list for the next round of purchases. I'm holding off until DK's appt next week. I will remind about dry brushing and we talked about cold rinse, which DK said was naturally doing already which is good. I like the reminder about making it a part of the routine and will continue to encourage DK. It's so hard for a teen to imagine dealing with something like this for a lifetime. We are easing into that - it's discussed but not dwelled upon a lot. Mostly just taking it a day at a time.
