How Dr Alan Steere Treated His Patient (who happened to be a doctor himself)

Ok fair warning, this stuff is quite frustrating so I don't recommend reading it if you don't want to get upset.

The ethics of this thing are incredible. It will forever be our misfortune that a guy like Steere got credit for "discovering" lyme vaulting him into a position of authority on the subject. He spent many years telling people it was a virus and not bacterial, and refusing to treat people with antibiotics in spite of other contemporary doctors' successes with abx. Incredible.

thanks cd3764! of course I'd rather share happy stuff, but the history of this illness is truly fascinating. It will provide a great case study for future generations on the pitfalls of allowing a small racket of doctors to hijack a disease complex due to their financial ties plus ego plus whatever other nefarious motives you may want to ascribe to them. It really does come down to money and special interests, but we have the truth, and that will eventually shine forth :)

It's just amazing that a guy like Steere, a so called top expert on borrelia, wouldn't even understand that abx were likely a great treatment option given that borrelia is a spirochete and so similar to syphilis. Even a doctor with absolutely zero experience in the field was able to make those connections immediately. Rather embarrassing. But that's why it's frustrating that Steere (and cronies like Wormser) still get a platform in national papers and radio to spout their misinformation.

Make no mistake about it. Allen Steere, Gary Wormser, and Paul Auwaerter are all huge into the chronic Lyme denial. But don't be deceived, there are many that work in their name to discredit those of us that believe and live with chronic Lyme. They call us "Loonies" and worse. And the are all purported to be "Lyme experts" - but we know the truth of the matter and one day the truth will come out.

My hope is that each and every one of us that has or had chronic Lyme does something in some way to help bring awareness. Eventually there will be so many of us doing this that even the "talking heads of Lyme denialists" can't do any damage.
