L ARGININE

500-1000mg 3x daily L-arginine is part of Buhner's Babesia and Bartonella protocols.

I've been taking it since mid-November without incident. I can't give it any specific credit since I'm taking so much stuff lol However, I'm s-l-o-w-l-y improving.

L-arginine increases the levels of nitric oxide in the blood vessels which helps to correct the depletion caused by Babs/Bart and make the blood vessels inhospitable to these organisms.

Buhner cautions against taking it in cases of active herpes or shingles. Some people have had their EBV reactivate as a result of taking l-arginine.

Low and slow continues to be the way to go :)

For whatever it's worth, I tested EBV IgG 600 after my tick bite. (I don't remember the range but suffice it to say that was high :) As you know, IgG indicates an old infection. I had mono in my 20's and, even if I didn't, most Americans test positive for IgG.

I was negative for IgM (active infection) and I had no symptoms.

Because of what I'd learned about L-arginine reactivating viruses, I was hesitant to try it. But, I really, really like the idea of making my body inhospitable to the bugs and I obviously tried it. I started with 500mg once daily for a week and then I added the 2nd dose. I increased to 1000mg the same way. I'm still here and no new complaints ;)

When I was sick, my food log showed that I instinctively increased my arginine intake. I used this to backtrack through the molecular pathways to help determine what I had.

I started it after I got back my genetic results. I kept spectaculary crashing psychologically while treating (even with HUGE detoxing). I stopped all treatment and built up gradually to 1000mgs twice a day, before adding in B12 and methylfolate, then SAMe, tryptophan and kudzu.

Since then (apart from a minor setback when I ran out of the stuff) I have not had the psych problems or brain fog I had, and am now back on my treatment. It has certainly worked wonders for me by way of detoxing, combined with the other 'brain' supplements, and allowed me to stay in treatment for both Lyme and Bart.

Arginine reactivates herpes viral infections, not the Lyme infection.

In order to help get a positive on the Western Blot for Lyme, you need to use something like olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, or abx. By killing some of the bacteria, the immune system might try to produce those much needed antibodies. But be aware, these methods will likely make you herx as well.

I have a lot of thoughts on this, some supported by research, some are not. I believe that many of the reactive oxygen species we produce that are harmful to us are produced to help decrease microbial growth of a latent infection. Our body chooses the lesser of two evils.

Thank you, GH - I'll read that later! Of course we do have to realize that Candida and Lyme are not the same as one is fungal and one is bacterial and a bugger of one at that! But I'll have to read the article to understand how they are tying it all in.
