As the Lyme bacteria dies whether naturally or from treatments, it releases toxins (often referred to as Neurotoxins). "When considering toxins, it must be recognized that toxins are poisonous substances that are irritating and sometimes permanently damaging to the tissues of the body." (
www.benbrew.com/lb/lyme5.pdf)
We can kind of recreate this issue by detoxing too much. "When detoxification is applied in excess, too many toxins currently residing within the body, both Lyme and non-Lyme, become mobilized at once." (
www.tiredoflyme.com/4-reasons-why-you-still-feel-bad-despite-detoxing.html)
When we first start off with detoxing, or if we suddenly increase our detoxing, we can easily end up with a herx from detoxing because we simply have too many toxins suddenly in our blood stream and are not getting out of the body fast enough. For some of us, certain detox methods will always be problematic. For me it's the full body Epsom salt soaks, so I stick to the foot soaks instead. The full body soaks simply move too many toxins at once for my body. For some it's a sauna, for others it will be other things. It's best to recognize what detoxing routines seem to give you the most issues and avoid them once you know how you respond to them.
I would encourage you to post your detoxing issues in this thread so that others can see your post and we can have many suggestions in one thread. I think it would help us all this way.
My list of detoxing that I'm doing now, daily:
Epsom salt/peroxide foot soaks
Oil pulling (am only right now)
AVC (Apple Cider Vinegar)
Yogi detox tea (almost daily, I have to take a break every 5 or 6 days for a day or two)
Dry skin brushing
ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid)
And since I can't take milk thistle to help detox and protect my liver due to a rag weed allergy, I use an all natural liver/gall bladder cleanse every so often, but at least twice a year.
To help my kidneys, bladder, and the rest of my urinary tract, I use Nature's Way cranberry when needed. (

I use magnesium to be sure my intestines move once a day to help eliminate those toxins as well. -Sorry if this is TMI, but it's a very necessary part of our detoxing!
It seems like I'm missing something, but I can't figure it out, so I'll edit this post if I can remember what it is!! LOL!
