Bartonella

I am trying to use Byron White's A-BART but am having a hard time handling this tincture.  I am taking 1/2 drop every other day.  Do you think it is a good idea to try Buhner's Houttuynia tincture?  Any other recommendations for treating Bartonella?  I can't tolerate antibiotics due to bad gut issues.  Thanks in advance.

A-Bart has a tendency to hit pretty hard for some of us. Be sure you are doing all you can to detox as much as you can. That usually helps a lot when people are trying to increase their doses.

How long have you been at a 1/2 drop every other day?

And I would certainly NOT encourage you to add in another hard hitting herb when you are already struggling with this, so I have to say no to the Houttuynia at this point.

Okay, sorry! It does seem that the A-Bart has something in it that you just can't use. Many of us will come across something like that if we've been in treatment long enough.

I would encourage you to find another protocol then. After a month and a half, you should be able to get to a higher dose than that. Do you have thoughts on what protocol you would like to try instead? Houttuynia is a pretty hard hitting herb for many of us that have been sick for a long time, so if you try this, do be really careful with it as well.

Will your current LLMD not try another natural protocol with you? If not, then I do encourage you to find another one.

I should have known that you would already be detoxing like crazy Patty, sorry! You've heard me rant on about that for a long time now! LOL!

K had very bad herx reactions to A-Bart (shin pain, headache, eye pain, foot pain, Tourette's ticking), and it took several months to get her to full dosage (20 drops 3x daily). Even after 8 months at that dose she was still herxing with any increase and just not improving (she was on bartonella abx at that time as well).

The hopelessness/depression you feel can be part of your herx.

Once we switched from A-Bart and antibiotics to Buhner's bartonella protocol she saw improvement. It was a lot gentler and simply more effective. I would give houttuynia a try, although you will find herx reactions with it as well.

Thank you all for posting. Rowingmom, I have read your posts about the problem with A-BART. It is a very powerful tincture. I expect herxes but not being able to updose is worrisome. By the way, you have been an inspiration to me over the years.

Thank you, PeteZa. I don't scare too easily....lol. It's just that I am so sensitive to so many meds and it kind of gives me a 'heads up' so to speak.

Optimistick, the problem is that 1/2 drop (without increasing for 1 1/2 months) is causing constant herx or herx-like symptoms. I can't seem to increase the dose without having outrageous symptoms. Thank you for your gracious input.

I have to be honest I have a harder time with herbs than with abx. Herbs can be very very strong also. I had unbearable brain inflammation from herbs. I see you tried fluoroquinolones abx. Have you tried something like biaxin / rifampin combo for bartonella? Maybe you would have better luck? IDK. I did. Some people tolerate some treatment better with these abx than others but jumping right into levaquin and other fluoroquinolones is using the heavy hitters right away I know alot of people that have issues with those types of abx specifically.

Are you allergic to grapefruit or taking any rx meds that react to it? Cowden's products contain grapefruit extract (not grapefruit seed extract)

A Bart and A Bab are tough to handle. I'm on an abx break and switched from those to Houttuynia drops to Zhang's Houttuynia capsules. I wanted away from drops. The Zhang capsules have worked really well.
