Bactrim reaction!!!!

5 weeks is a long time to be on an abx and to suddenly develop an allergic reaction - although it's happened - although 5 weeks is about the right time for a herx.

Are you detoxing lots? What all are you doing for detoxing?

If you have a hive like rash, please stop the abx and call your doc right away.

Unfortunately, I'm not very good with the abx and what they treat. Lyme and Bart can both create heart symptoms/issues as well though.

I'm so so sorry this has you so scared. Have you tried taking Benadryl? If it's an allergic reaction, Benadryl will help - and if it's a CNS issue, Benadryl will also help as it's a CNS depressant as well as an antihistamine.

No, a rash is not required for it to be an allergic reaction. Does your throat feel like it's closing off? Tongue swollen? These are signs of a serious allergic reaction that needs immediate care is all.

I still think this is a herx reaction (mainly because of the timing and the combination of symptoms), but it's really scaring you, so you would likely do best to call your LLMD and ask them what to do - we aren't doctors and we surely don't want to give you bad information.

Stopping your meds for a day or two until you can get this figured out won't interfere with your treatments most likely - but the peace of mind will be priceless.

Bactrim, Septra Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole Two 80mg/400mg tablets twice per day. (Because there are two drugs mixed the amount is listed with a /.)
Description: Taken with Mepron and Zithromax or Cleocin and Quinine.

It has a half life of 12 hours and that is why dosing is twice a day. Drink lots of water with this one to avoid kidney stones.

One study found that 89% of those that took Trimethoprim with one of the above combinations were cured of Babesia while many of those that did not include it relapsed.

Dr Zhang also recommends taking this drug in combination with Qinghaosu.

Yeah, sounds like a herx to me too. I'm allergic to this med and all sulfa drugs, and within the first or 2nd dose my skin turns red and I itch all over. I get this weird feeling, like my body is in shock or something and feel like I'm going to throw up or end up with diarrhea. It just feels like my body wants to get rid of what I just took. Benadryl helps with these symptoms and it took 3 days on Benedryl last time for the itchiness to go away.
