Hi guys,
I have a weird question. I just started taking rifampin, minocycline and plaquinil today well yesterday morning now. I am taking them for a clinicaly diagnosed case of lymes/bart/erlichia.

By last night I started get lots of acne like spots all over upper arms without the pimple on top but the same look to them. Is this possibly a med reaction or is this just a side effect of either the med or bacteria dying?

I am very tired by tonight and have a lot of muscle pain in the back as well as some neck pain and chest pain. No breathing problems or hives or anything like that but it is weird that it would start after the abx in system for only 12 hours Any insight would be helpful.

Did you start all 3 meds at once?

Sorry to tell you but, that's not a really good idea even if your doctor recommended it. How do you know which med might be suspect for any side effects?

All 3 of the meds you are taking have rash listed as a possible side effect.

The other issues you've shared sound like you're herxing.... Whether it's the meds or the usual life cycle of the bugs, a worsening of symptoms when in treatment is a herx.

Did you start a daily detoxing protocol before you started the meds? If not, I suggest you get moving with that because you are at risk of feeling even worse.

I agree with cd. My LLMD had me take one drug for a few days before I started the next one. I hope that is what you did.

He did not say to start them at different times although that would have made sense. I started all at the same time. I did get the Epsom salt to start soaking every day and I did see that some use benedryl as well? is that correct? I was trying to read through all the info but my eyes hurt and I am not able to process all the info very well right now. Stupid brain fog grr.

Those red raised spots/marks are a common Bart symptom.

When starting a treatment that is targeting Bart it's a common herx/indication that the treatment is working. I still get a similiar reaction and I've been at this for almost two years.

Rifampin is most commonly used for Bart.

I am just very worried and anxious with all of these symptoms that I have had that even though I have been diagnosed clinically with having negative test I worry that I am still missing something. It has been an emotional roller coaster to say the least and oddly enough I am not an emotional person. And do you also have times when you go to itch your arms and all it does is welt up and stay red for ever?

I'm also on minocycline (and A-L complex.) I started around the end of November. At the end of December, I started getting those acne like marks on my back. They also itch...B-A-D!!!! Since then, they've moved from my shoulders, to my arms, and now my stomach. I was worried it was an antibiotic reaction, but my LLND said she had the same thing when she had Lyme :/. I never got a clear answer on what it is. Die off? Babs? Bart? (But I wasn't told I have that one.)

She put me on zyrtek for the itch. It's not working. I've tried everything from lots of detox, oatmeal baths, itch cream, lidocaine spray, aloe, etc etc. Nothing works. Someone here mentioned Grandpa's Pine Tar soap a while back. It's stinks like a fire pit and beef jerky, lol, but at least it's giving me a few hours relief. I real hope yours do not start to itch :(

I haven't had any itching issues but I've been on different abx's combo's then you are so that may be why. No clue past that. You could ask your LLMD for something that may help with the itching. I didn't go after Bart until I was 9 months into treatment. Maybe my body had gotten past the shock of herxing? That's just a wild guess but anything is possible with Lyme and co"s

Also another weird question. I am full of questions right now sorry guys.

I get a lot of pain under the skin and it can be anywhere but it feels like my whole body is bruised anytime I lean on something or sit wrong it hurts. Is this common with lymes? I don't actually get bruises but it sure feels like it.

Yes, I'm one person who gets a lot of pain with lyme and co's.

When I sit for a long period and then get up ...or when I get up in the morning after 8 hours in bed, my body hurts.

I hate it.

Do what you can to detox..and get rid of the toxins that are building up.

For many months I had tailbone pain..it has gone away with treatment...that one was a weird one.

i got red blotches on my face starting in mid-sept of last year and its worse than ever. i started treating bart for the first time in mid jan so i'm pretty sure that's what it is. it's possible it could be the abx's killing off the microbes in my skin causing it but i'm sticking with the bart since it loves manifesting itself in the skin.

I got that itching bad ..it turns red hivey when i scratch ...charcoal soap and bentonitw baths sorta helps. It started after houttuni . .quit last week its still there...aaarrggh....is it bart on the run ?.has anyone else used plaqunil?that for babs though ya..?

are you still taking all of them at once? why not start over and take one med at a time and slowly ramp up and see what happens? an allergic reaction to a medication is usually in the form of an itchy rash or hives, so that does not sound like an allergy - more of a herx, but we can't be sure. Do be careful. there is definitely such a thing as taking too much at once as to cause toxicity in your body.

Thanks for the advise, some of the spots have subsided just have itchy skin now and my bart stretch marks are changing. Kinda grosses me out just a little.
