Has anyone tried Gotu Kola supplement? I read about its toxicity for bacteria. Do you know something more about it?

I have not tried it but it is used a lot in Ayurveda medicine. I know that and one other story - Elephants never forget and it is because they eat it.

I have a bunch of herb books but they are old. The internet might be more up to date.

"Herbs That Heal" 1994 says that Gotu Kola (Chi-Hsing; Pai-Kuo) has been employed to alleviate bowel complaints and to treat syphilis and tubercular inflammation of the cervical lymph nodes. It can have a sedative activity, especially for the nervous system.

Caution: Overdose may cause narcotic stupor.

I would call a bonafide herbalist. Like I said I have seen this herb in the health food store and my first post is about all I "know" about it. This post is from one of the books on my shelf.

Where did you read about the toxicity for bacteria, blueberrymuffin?

I see in PeteZa's quote that it has actions against syphilis which is a spirochete bacteria like Borrellia (Lyme).

And, it sounds a bit like an herbal version of Ambien.

I think the idea of contacting an herbalist has merit. Buhner recommends a few on his Facebook page from what I understand. (I copied and pasted the info when someone shared it here - please let me know if you'd like me to pass it along)

I found this information on some website, I am not sure. As I read, it kills sprochete.

I would like to ask you for advice, because I really do not know what to do. I am supposed to do some blood tests and doctor told me I must not take any abx in order to get accurate blood tests. Can I take gotu kola in a meanwhile? Or it can also act as abx and change my results? Maybe it is better to stop it?
I asked doctor and he said that he does not know about effect of Gotu Kola on blood test. But I think it may have an impact as it can kill spirochete? What do you think?

However, since I started taking it, I have positive effects. My mind is clearer and I can focus better. I would not like to stop it, only if I must.

When you think of herbs you have to think of them like medicine because that is what they are. There are interactions between them and between them and pharmaceuticals. Just because it is an herb and can grow in your yard does not make it benign. We have a very beautiful houseplant that is called Dieffenbachia. If you cut that plant and suck on the juice it can cause temporary inability to speak and it is very toxic to cats and dogs. Plants are not all simple nice and pretty.

In my opinion when the doctor asks you to stop your medication, you should stop the herbs also. Just my opinion.

I know you want to keep doing it, and you can come back to it.

I need your advice.
I got a date for my blood test, but there is a problem. It will pass only 23 days between I stopped gotu kola and giving blood sample. As I earlier mentioned, my doctor said he does not know if gotu kola can affect blood results, he only stated I should not take abx FOR ONE MONTH. But as we disscussed earlier, if gotu kola have posibility to kill bacteria, it may act as abx and mess with my results.
So, my question is, am I able to give blood sample after not taking gotu kola for 23 days? If it is considered to have the same effect as abx, then I would need to wait one week more for testing, right?
So please tell me your opinion if I am able to give blood sample or to reschedule it.

I think you will be fine. Drink 8 glasses of water a day and flush out your system. To really detox add a little lemon. Or you can add a little apple cider vinegar.

No stress! You will be fine. <3
