4 year old woke up with swollen knee-thoughts?

I'm jumping to conclusions here...could it be Lyme?

I'm currently in treatment, and all of my kids have been bitten by ticks in the past (live in a high risk area). I no longer share any drinks/food with them, in hopes of not transmitting. However, I didn't realize chance of transmission until a couple months ago, and I was bit a year ago.

Thoughts on this swollen knee? I found an article stating half of kids who go to the ER with a swollen knee test positive for Lyme 😢

He won't put pressure on it, and slides around on the floor or asks to be carried.

I've only found one engorged tick ever, on my oldest (which I now want to test him, as now I know the truth, that no bullseye found is not a guarantee of no infection).

Just needed to put this out there...to people who understand Lyme and co...and wouldn't call me paranoid.

DS 14 had swollen knee twice before I googled and asked for the test. They kept wanting to send him to the orthopedist. And yes, he did flare yesterday horribly and it was a full moon - full of energy today though.

I know some 4 year olds wouldn't be able to answer accurately or truthfully but if your child generally does, you might try asking if they remember falling or twisting or when it started hurting. DS always swore he never injured his knee in any way or took any hits from lacrosse etc.

Google images of swollen knees and lyme and compare. I noticed that DS's knee swelling looked identical to photos after we knew what was going on. The swelling was more on the top outside of the knee and down along the side, mainly in front. Definitely take some pictures.

Also DS's swelling lasted for weeks so if the knee doesn't look better in a few days I would ask for the test. DS did get a positive test after the second knee flare.

My first symptom was swollen knees. I just thought I had over done it and I actually went to my orthopedist and got cortisone shots in both. What a dummie! I had no idea at the time what those shots would release - full blown lyme!

I would ice his knee. That will get the swelling down and once that is down the pain will go and he will be able to walk when all that swelling is gone. You can't bend your knee when it is swollen. It feels like you bought a size too small of panty hose.

I know exactly what you mean. I did LabCorp for my first negative test.

Poor lil thing. Being 4 and a boy this is torture for him not being able to romp. And very hard for a Mommie to watch.
