Also good for prevention is killing the buggers before they can breed. I'll be putting out tick tubes (someone suggested here) and of course there are my 5 noisy guineas on patrol. In reading about
these tick tubes, it seems that some people have nearly eradicated ticks on their property. Long story short, the poison (permethrin) is sprayed on cottonballs or dry lint or whatever, stuffed into toilet paper tubes and then tuck those into leaf piles, tall grasses, tick habitat. The mice grab the stuffing for their nests and thereby rub the poison all over themselves and their baby mice (it doesn't hurt mammals but is deadly for aquatic life) and when the ticks land on the mice they DIE. Supposed to be done in April and July when the mice are nesting.
We have seen ticks on the dogs and I had one on my pants during a walk the other day. Today I found either a deer tick or a nymph wood tick crawling on our white dog's fur. It went to tick university.
Oh how I hate them.
