ABX for asperger-autism?

Hi!

I'd like to get experiences-opinion regarding autism/asperger's and lyme.

My son just turned 3, and has asperger's like symptoms, and a very weak immune system.

We ordered a Western Blot and an elispot for him and the result is that WB negative (only P41 IGG and BMTA IGM is positive), and the elispot is, let's say, borderline (3 and 2).

The biologist of the lab is convinced that my son has lyme, the borderline result conserns to the activity of the borrelia, not that he is "borderline" infected.

We will go for my lyme doc tomorrow but I am very sure that she will prescribe tons of ABX for him, and honestly, I am not sure what is the right decision to make: treatment with ABX or not.

Even if it is really lyme I read about articles that ABX was given for children with autism and they got "better" until they were on ABX but after it discontinued they sunk back to their original state. I think it could be due to biofilm. But if I am right, then there is no sense to give ABX to kill the bacteria outside the biofilm when they survive inside and spread after ABX discontinued.

However my doc claimed last time when I said the theory of my son's asperger-lyme connection that sooner we start to treat him the best result we will have, and these little children respond very-very well to ABX. Could this be true???

Children do seem to do better with lyme treatment - I think this isn't just antibiotics, but also with herbal protocols.


The biofilms (and cysts) should be addressed...while treating - so that when abx are discontinued, there aren't any to 'come out of hiding'.

When you say you're not sure what is the right decision to make - I hope you're not thinking to treat or not to treat...but deciding HOW to treat - abx or herbals?

Does your son have other symptoms beside's the autism/asperger's? Does he have any joint or muscle pain, headaches, twitches, etc.?

If antibiotics concern you, then you should really look into herbals.

Don't wait though. The sooner you start treatment the better it is for the patient. Waiting is not good.

He does not have any pain, and he is very-very clever (high IQ) on the one hand, but on the other hand, well... He is very sensitive, has sudden anger episodes, not flexible, irritable, has a lot of repetitive behaviour, fanatic to letters and numbers, etc... These are asperger symptoms.

Other weird things are eczema from birth, he is hypotone (not much muscle), and I think his immune system is really bad as gets almost all infections (ill every two weeks).

Besides these problems, he is totally "healthy".

I am not sure of the ABX, but I think we will try glutenfree, sugarfree diet, and I will order a kryptopirroluria test for him.

Those certainly sound like Lyme symptoms. It can present so differently in each person. My son, who is 4, has had Lyme since birth. We began treating him with herbs shortly before his third birthday. He had some symptoms that were ASD-like. It sounds like he shared quite a few of your son's symptoms. After a couple of months of treatment, I couldn't believe the change in his personality. Before, when teachers and friends would say hello to him in the hallway at daycare, he didn't respond or engage at all. I remember how surprised and overjoyed I felt the first time he saw one of his teacher and enthusiastically said, "It's Miss Sue! Hi Miss Sue!"

My son also had skin issues. Some cleared up after eliminating certain foods that showed up when we did food antibody testing. More of his skin issues are clearing up since treating him for parasites.

You do have options for treatment. Not everyone uses antibiotics. My son and I have just used herbs. It is still important to attack the biofilm, too. We use enzymes for that. And we have both recently learned how important it is to consider parasites. Detoxing is really important. It's hard to see your child herx. The thing that worked best for my son and may work for yours, as well, since his symptoms seem to be neuro, is a Beyond Balance product called Cognease Detox. It really helped with my brain fog and decreased my son's rage episodes. If you don't have access to Beyond Balance products, there are some Jernigan Antitox products that are similar. Neither of us is all the way well yet, but we both continue to see improvements when we try new things. As they say, it's a marathon, not a sprint, and I have no doubt that it will be worth all of the effort we've put into it.

Here is our daughter's (K)'s symptom timeline:

Born 2001 with light/sound/touch sensitivity. Loss of speech/fine motor ability 2 weeks after 15 month MMR vaccination.

2004 - Dx ADHD, SPD (light, sound, touch), motor delay (with toe-walking), hypotonia, oral apraxia.

2008 - MMR booster and insect bite (bruise-like rash) - motor/vocal tics, emotional lability (including rage), age regressive behaviour, low level OCD, urinary frequency, diminished fine motor ability, insomnia, loss of executive function. Waxed and waned with strep/viral infections.

2010 - Dx ADHD, Tourettes, Aspergers, motor delay, probable PANDAS.

Jan 2011 - shin/forearm pain, cyclic IBS, foot (sole) pain, dizziness, palpitations, chest pain, anxiety/panic attacks, pick-like skull pain, pain and stiffness at base of skull, tingling in extremeties, chills and hot flashes, extreme fatigue, nightly fever.

June 2011 - Igenex PCR positive bartonella, Negative ELISA, Negative lyme (IND IgM kDa 41; IND IgG kDa 39, 34. kDa 41++). CD57 18. Positive ANA (speckled type), heterozygous A1298C MTHFR. Multiple Abx, methyl B12, methylfolate, P-5-P, herbal, homeopathic treatment with LLMD.

Jan 2013 - Bartonella IgG titers declined from 160 (Jun 2011) to 80. CD57 16.

April 2013 - Weaned from abx treatment at 80% improvement. Continued with Full Buhner bartonella herbal protocol, Terry Wahls/PerfectHealthDiet gf/cf/sf diet. Minimizing EMF exposure.

Sept 2013 - CD57 45.

Oct 2013 - All symptoms (PANS and pain/fatigue) 95% resolved. No flares with viral or other infections. Herxing remains with changes in herbal protocols.

Nov 2013 - Clinical babesia diagnosis. Improvement to 98% with addition of Buhner herbal protozoan treatment.

Dec 2013 - ANA titers negative. PANS symptoms resolved. Regular classroom requiring no accommodations. B+/A student.

Mar 2014 - Continued improvement in cognitive/executive function with increased dosages of cryptolepis/sida/alchornea (CSA) tincture.

Sept 2014 - Continued improvement with the addition of red root. Resolution of EMF sensitivities with low dose cilantro tincture and diatomaceous earth. 99%

K had diagnoses of Asperger's, Tourette's, motor delay, Sensory Processing Disorder and ADHD with low level OCD which all completely resolved with bartonella/babesia treatment.

If your son has psych issues I would recommend that you investigate the possibility of a bartonella coinfection, not simply lyme.

I have seen K relapse back into Asperger's etc. when antibiotics were discontinued too early on in the game.

She remains on low doses of Buhner's herbal bartonella protocol with some herbs from the babesia protocol as well. The babesia herbs will treat any underlying protozoan infections.

Even if your son tests negatively for bartonella and babesia, I would recommend at least herbally treating for both of those infections. There are many species of these infections circulating, but only a couple of tests.
