Hi luna--
a lot of great info already provided in responses here. I'll add a few of my thought that are pretty different - if they don't apply to your situation please ignore!
I used to experience crazy sharp, stabbing, burning, prickly pains in my scalp that often favored one side but not always... and sometimes down the neck/ear area. They would appear all of a sudden and last for days and then disappear. I wouldn't ever have a rash or anything visible but if a light breeze softly brushed through my hair, I would be in excruciating pain.
When I first started seeing my LLMD she tested me for high viral titers and sure enough, I was positive for 4 or 5 different viral loads, including CMV, Epstein Barr, and a couple forms of the herpes virus (responsible for cold sores)--one that is commonly associated with tick-borne illnesses is HHV (human herpes virus) 6 and 8.
I told the LLMD about
the scalp pain and she felt it sounded like shingles, which I agreed with. I had chicken pox as a kid - shingles (also known as zoster or herpes zoster) is caused by the same virus responsible for chicken pox: the varicella zoster virus. Even if you had chicken pox in the past, you can still contract shingles. Once I started on antivirals, I stopped experiencing the scalp pain.
Many lymees have viral loads that haven't been discovered yet so they aren't being treated to reduce the viral load. For me, my viral load can dominate even the lyme, bart and babesia symptoms and can make other treatment ineffective unless I keep my viral load in check. So I'm curious if you and your LLMD have investigated for viruses. Hope this helps.
