A while back after loosing my job, out of desperation, i took some not so scientific advice and started taking large doses of vit C, about 2-6000mg/day depending on bowel tolerance. I had done this for about 3 months religiously and then not realizing its benefits went off of it when I ran out. I am not taking any special vit C like liposomal or vit c complex just ascorbic acid and the relults speak for themselves. What I noticed is that some of my major improvements were due to the vit C that I can buy for $10.00 at any big pharmacy.
First and this is a big one for me is bowel regularity. Probably my main symptom from lyme is IBS and it is really nice to have a normal BM every day. I have taken all kinds of fiber/probiotics but they never work in fact they usually make things worse. I feel like i have constipated diarrhea, it is in there loose and rumbling around but it wont come out, fiber just adds to the problem but vit C works. I don't think it works due to a laxative affect like everyone says but a neurological one instead. Having a normal BM has helped with detoxing and with a lot of my leaky gut problems. The swelling and size of my abdomen has gone down quit a lot and I feel better. I do have to warn you that it can cause a lot of gas but for me that is nothing new.
Second and this is another big one is with quality of sleep. I had no idea that adequate levels of vit C help with sleep. Without vit C I will either have insomnia or way to much REM sleep and no deep sleep. When I take vit C I sleep a lot deeper and feel more refreshed in the morning. Obviously this is huge for being able to heal and repair from an infection like Lyme. It clearly helps my nervous system work better and why I think it helps with IBS.
Last and this really isn't that big of a problem but I have less acne when I take large amounts of vit C. I never had a lot but I take this as a sign that my immune system is working better.
All of that from plain old vit c. Does anybody else take large doses of vit C? I know that a lot of Dr.s will give huge doses of IV vit C but I am concerned if there are any side effects from long term chronic use? For example I have osteoporosis and want to avoid acidifying, on the other hand I am under less stress with it so cortisol levels should be lower.
Just thought I would let the forum know this has been a big breakthrough for me and it is so cheap and easy to get.
