Ok, so I have read plenty about
PANDAS, but I still need some help understanding it all.
There are several possibilities at hand here, and I need to face PANDAS and decide whether or not my kids may have it.
My older daughter, Teresa over the past year has presented with brain fog, crankiness, sleep issues, sore throat, Gi upset/reflux. These problems have improved since I started her on Buhner's protocol. Prior to Lyme, she was diagnosed with sensory processing disorder, was always a bit "off", had "tics", never needed much sleep, high tolerance for pain, very very bright but never caught on to social cues. While she had lyme she had everything I already mentioned, in addition to bladder retention problems and some numbness in her hands. She was not diagnosed for years - nobody could ever figure out her exact problem. Then finally last year the Dr diagnosed her with Aspergers, after her lyme treatment had finished. So, if she had these issues before lyme, how do I know that these issues now are still due to lyme? I don't, but I am treating her anyway, and the herbs are helping. BUT
4 weeks ago she came down with Strept throat. She took amoxil for 10 days. The dose the Dr wrote for wasn't as high as I expected it to be, but 2 days later she was much better, so we finished off the 10 days and she was fine. Now, 2.5 weeks later, she has strept again. Started the Z pack, it isn't working. So I got really worried and the Dr switched her to augmentin. I hope this works. But bc of the sore throat thing always being an issue, Pandas now is on my mind -
is it possible that because she has been on the herbs, somehow they brought strept out in the "
open"?
and another one - if lyme caused pandas in my daughter, then that means she had lyme before I even thought she had lyme, right? otherwise, pandas was not caused by lyme but streptoccocal instead - but would that mean she had strept once and it was never cleared out of her system?? This is where I am confused. Or of course, the final scenerio, she does not have pandas.......?
my son, for instance, outside of asthmatic bronchitis in the winter, the only problem he ever had was not being able to keep his bed dry at night. He wore pull ups til he was 7 or 8. When he had lyme, the only symptoms he had was a fever, pain in his legs, a rash on one of his legs, and he wet his bed even more at night and his underpants more during the day (they were damp). Now, I cannot remember if he stopped wetting his bed before or after his lyme treatment. Its bugging me, but I will never be able to figure it out. However, just over the past few months, he has been dampening his underpants again, especially at night. And then after my daughter had strept, my son had strept. he took meds, and was fine. BUT while he was sick, he soaked the bed and was wetting his underpants even more so. And a week after he finished the antibiotics, his leg hurt for a few days (the same one that had the rash on it 2 years ago - uncanny right, is it a coincidence or not???!!!) He is 10. Could this be pandas? and if it is, how do I know if it is from Strept or lyme????
is there a pandas checklist? could a child have pandas with only one symptom, like my son??
I would appreciate ANY insight into this, bc if my son still has bacteria floating around in his system, i gotta take care of it!! thanks so much!!!!!
