Anyone else on Doxy get a random feeling as if someone is pouring cool water over your hands as well as what seems to be a heat intolerance. Having my hand in the direct sunlight or over the stove while i'm cooking, well, the best way i can describe this feeling is, have you ever sat too close to a camp fire? My hands arent actually hot, just the sensation that they are. My Doctor is thinking about prescribing me Minocyline after I get the results from my ANA test back. It could be a looooong summer lol

I specifically asked my doc to put me on Ceftin because I was going to be in the sun and did not want a sun reaction.

In July, 2014, I was prescribed doxycycline - and we had a heat wave.

I put sunscreen on every part of skin that was exposed...(I am fair-haired, blue-eyed) - and drove to town (a 10-15 minute drive)...by the time I got there, the backs of my hands were red.

I ended up having to take a break from it...

I did not have the same reaction to Minocycline. I was on it in July and Aug of 2015 and no issues with the sun.
I found it worked really well for my head issues. (pressure behind my eyes; tinnitus, as well as being off balance)

Doxy shouldn't be used in the summer, due to sun issues with it. Many LLMDs replace it with Biaxin during the sun months.

doxy and the sun are definitely not friends. My LLMD actually switches his entire roster of patients to Mino every summer.

That is EXACTLY what happened to me. It is peripheral neuropathy due to doxycycline toxicity which is due to sunlight exposure. NOT GOOD>

There are definitely other alternatives. When I was on doxy and this started happening in May, my Dr switched me from doxy to Bactrim. I am not sure what you are treating, but I was treating Lyme and Bartonella. And the Bactrim plus Zithromax combo plus other herbs is what helped me beat it.

please consider switching, it is not good for your skin/body. It got so bad for me even though I was covered from head to toe and with a hat, my hands got messed up just from driving the car!!

Might the strange sensations in my hands be from the dozy? They are not red or sunburned, however for the past two days I've had and external sensation of alternating hot/cold pins & needle sensations; I seem to notice it more when my hands have been in the water, after doing dishes or washing. Is the reaction to doxy just sun related or is it also heat sensitivity? I've had an internal neuropathy type feeling before but this is different.

200mg twice a day doxy
zithromax 500 mg daily

that's the dose I was on. Doxy is the first line defense against lyme. I don't know how long you have been on it, but I would seriously discuss this with your Dr. When I switched to bactrim it took 3 weeks for those running water sensations to go away. The best way to look at it is this:

if you have been improving, that means the meds are working. When you initially start treating lyme, new symptoms may arise while you are herxing, but as time goes on, the symptoms should decrease. If a new symptom arises, it might possibly be due to a coinfection, but if it is a symptom that could be a side effect of a medicine, I would explore that first.

I was on doxy alone for 3 months, then we initiated the zithromax, and then 2 months later is when the peripheral neuropathy started occurring, and that is when we switched doxy to Bactrim. I tried GSE but couldn't tolerate it.

When I was on doxy, and exposed to the sun, I felt like my body was burning from the inside out. Even when driving in a car, I had to cover up my arms and hands or they felt like they were on fire when they were exposed to the sun. I got sunburned the first few days that I was on doxy, and from that point on, my hands and feet tingled whenever they got wet. Also, when cold air or wind passed over my skin, it felt like water was falling on my skin. I actually stopped at one point and asked my husband if it was raining, but it wasn't, it was just peripheral neuropathy due to the doxy and sunburn.

Yes, I stopped using the doxy after just a few weeks. My regular doctor had prescribed it after my CDC positive lyme test. Once I found an LLMD, he switched me to cipro and biaxin for bartonella treatment. Now, I have just started mepron and zithromax to treat babesia.

I've been experiencing this, I thought it was just another one of symptoms but it may just be the doxy. Planning on switching to mino for the summer anyway.

Yes! This actually happened to me last weekend. I went camping and was taking doxy. We forgot sun screen and I burned bad. In my hands I got that exact same tingling sensation whenever they were exposed to even slight cold moments, like washing your hands and drying them off, to a heavy breeze. I was freaking out because I thought it was from poor circulation in my hands from heart issues. It wasn't until I connected the cold that I realized what was going on.
