Igenex Test Results: PLEASE...ANYONE?

Hello all. This is my first post. So I've been experiencing some life changing, debilitating symptoms for about a year and half now. I went from being perfectly normal and fine to developing extreme anxiety and fatigue, a sense of a surreal and warped reality, and unworldly depression and despair. Along with these mysterious symptoms, my cognitive abilities have become limited for getting up to do the simplest things like walking or showering seem to require the mental strength of a math major. I'm 28 and basically bed ridden.

Despite living in Los Angeles my whole life and only being to Michigan once, I decided to rule out Lyme even though I almost certain that I am not infected with Lyme. Getting to the point, I received my lab results today and need some assistance. It appears( and I may be wrong) that all the major stuff came back negative except for a few bands. Do these test results require me to visit a LLMD or further testing??

Any help will be much appreciated. I would want to avoid unnecessary treatment if possible. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

Hi Little Moe - welcome to our community!

I'm so sorry for what you've been experiencing for a year and a half.

Even though you IgM test shows negative - you do have a + on 83-93 which is a lyme specific band. You also have and IND on band 31.
If the band 31 IND was a + then your result would be Igenex positive.

And IND means something showed...just not strong enough for the lab to call it a positive.

Your symptoms, along with this test for a back-up equals lyme disease.

I urge you to find a LLMD for an evaluation. You can start a new thread titled: "Looking for LLMD in/near Los Angeles"

Thank you so much for your time and empathy. I will follow your advice and seek further help from a LLMD. This is all too surreal. I've been in the city(Los Angeles) my WHOLE life. How could this have happened? Anyway, I will try my best to find the appropriate treatment. I'll keep the forum updated.

Little_Moe we are finding many people that live in cities with lyme disease and MY suspicion is that birds can fly anywhere and those ticks can travel on them. Plus lyme disease has been found on rodents and we know they travel.

I was on a concrete patio when I got bit. I highly suspect that either the cat or the dog rubbed up against the table cloth and deposited the tick. I was part of the clean up group and I gathered up those tables cloths and got bit. I was on a swimming pool patio!

It would be very prudent for you to get into treatment. The sooner the better.

We can help you find a lyme literate medical doctor or naturopath doctor.

I am sure you have tons of questions, so ask away.

Thanks PeteZa for sharing that and bringing the point home to me on how prevalent this dreadful condition is.

And yes, I have many question but am overwhelmed at the moment. In the meantime, I'm strongly considering Dr.S for assessment and possible treatment. He's on the ILADS list and seems credible.

Little_Moe you should put your doctor's name as Dr. S. Even though California does not prosecute lyme doctors like many other states do, we try and keep our doctors private on this forum for their own security.

I can tell you this, he is on a very well recognized list of doctors. I know nothing of him personally because I am way up north near Truckee/Lake Tahoe.

Sorry to hear of another member in the Lyme club. At least you have an explanation for your symptoms.

Unfortunately, most doctors (except LLMD's of course) aren't Lyme-savvy enough to recognize that your Western Blot results confirm Lyme.

You see, the Western Blot measures antibody response. Well, Lyme has the unique ability to suppress the immune system. A suppressed immune system isn't going to mount a strong antibody response.

That's why a LLMD will recognize a "IND" as positive.

In fact, during the Lyme Summit that was available online earlier this month, noted LLMD Richard Horowitz (author of "Why Can't I Get Better? Solving the Mystery of Lyme and Chronic Disease") stated that one Lyme-specific band + symptoms = Lyme.

I'm glad you'll be seeing a LLMD and get started on much-needed treatment. The journey to wellness can be a long one but people do heal.

Please keep posting any questions that come to mind. We'll do our best to answer them and direct you to references that back up what we share on here.

There's also the possibility (and some of these are not scientifically 100% - at least I don't think so), that you got Lyme from mosquito/flea/lice bite, sexually, or possibly congenital. Many people are asymptomatic for years until something like a stressful event lowers immune system enough to trigger it.

Yeah, my LLMD says there are many many ways to contract it. It can lay dormant for years. For me, mold exposure suppressed my immune system enough for it to take over.
