My primary care doctor saw my tests results (Positive WB), and messaged me telling me he doesn't think my symptoms match with Chronic Lyme yet I have typical neurological symptoms of chronic lyme... brain fog, etc. but anyway he said he wants to start me on Doxycycline which I know is what they give to people when they just get bit by a tick or whatever, when they enter the hospital. But I have had my symptoms for many months now and I have an apt with an llmd in June, so I don't know if I should start on these antibiotics or wait for the LLMD to treat me?? Thanks for reading, I am so new to all this still.

Well....you could just wait until you see the LLMD .....or you could take the doxy...and have some information to report to the LLMD - whether you herxed ...or if you felt better...etc.

I think if he's willing to give you several weeks - to get you to your LLMD appt...then you might want to...then your LLMD can either add a second antibiotic to it...or change it. But if he's only going to give you two weeks worth...not sure if it would be worthwhile.

Typically more than one antibiotic is used to treat the infections...
This is done for a few reasons: to target the different forms of the bacteria....and to prevent antibiotic resistance.
(There may be other reasons, as well)
But even using two...it's good to start with one...and then add a second one a few weeks...later.
That way we will have a better idea of what's causing a side effect or allergic reaction if we have one.

It's up to you.
Waiting for my LLND, I asked my GP for 8 weeks of doxy to get me to my LLND appt. But, I was rather impatient.

Doxy alone makes more round body forms http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3132871/ is it better than nothing but you may want to start herbals ...see under our skin and buy buhners book....horiwitz book...consider all your options get it while you can ...educate ..cd caught it early too..girlie knows her stuff

I got the doxy but I was nervous about starting it because I've had this for a while. I started Buhner and felt better within a week. (Hard to believe, still!) I saw a so-called LLMD who said he'd start with Doxy, add Zithromax and maybe Rifampin based on my symptoms.

I hope to get through this with herbals only but know I may need antibiotics. I think keeping an open mind and listening to your gut is very important...and keep asking questions here!

Herbals - non-pharmaceutical protocols to treat the lyme and co-infections.

Kathy mentioned she was doing Buhner's.
