This is a great thread! My husband and myself are a perfect example. I was never CDC positive, yet was a wreck 2 years ago with a long long list of symptoms. My husband WAS CDC positive, and had one numb toe!! that was it!!! BUT then a year later, a few symptoms did pop up with him, and then went away again.
Honestly, in my opinion, in this world, no matter how emotional things can be, the BIGGEST daily factor that contributes to stress is Lack of Sleep - we just don't get enough, we all work too hard and don't rest enough (I can't remember the last time I slept in, except when I had the flu!).
another factor - antibiotics. I truly believe those who had taken antibiotics alot during their lifetime weakened the gut flora (like me), many have candida and don't know it - I had Candida and didn't realize it, and that is what I believed what pulled me down under!
another biggie - PH imbalance due to diet. Lyme likes acidic environments - so those who eat sugary and acidic foods have more of an acidic PH which in turn allows lyme to thrive (me again!).
and to answer the million dollar question of the weak vs the strong ever so slightly - I am pretty sure that genes do play a role in this. If you did genetic testing on a weak person vs a strong person - something will show up somewhere. There has to be a link. Some kids get sick over and over again as infants, and others don't get a real sickness until they are 3. yes, their surroundings play a role, but I do believe genes play a role here too. Also, if you made a list of their ways of life, eating habits, environments they are exposed to, etc....you will see a difference. Doing the right amount of exercise, getting enough sleep, and eating the right foods are all vital - and I know too many people who don't exercise at all, don't get enough sleep, and eat whatever - even those I know who have diabetes still eat cakes and cookies! nothing stops them!
Finally - vaccinations. Vaccinations weaken the immune system. Some people are just walking thru life, get a flu vaccine, and BAM Lyme comes out. Many people forget about this, and don't realize there is a link. Soem people have lyme, don't know it, get a vaccination, and get worse......My kids had lyme too. My youngest was due to get her Hepatitis shot - and my instincts told me to wait longer (we stall all of our kids' shots for as long as we can) - her LLMD said that was the best call I ever made, bc had she gotten that shot, she would have been much sicker than she was.
just my two cents! =)
