Hi Kct -
Sorry you're dealing with a headache. As T mentioned, it could indicate a lot of things. Funny, I used to think headaches were just normal and part of the day. Only when I started educating myself about
the MOUNTAIN of information we lymees have to understand in order to help ourselves did I realize there is usually a reason for everything.
A few wks ago I had 3 different types of headaches at the same time - a dull pain on the top of my head like someone had hit me with a 2x4, a pressure pain at the back of my head like I was lying on a pillow of concrete, and stabbing pains throughout the top right side of my head. It was excruciating. I drank lots of water, took my detox herbs and my binder - and this helped tremendously.
I think headaches usually indicate one of a few things:
Swollen lymph system
There could be several reasons why the lymph system is overwhelmed--lyme & co can cause thickening of the blood, toxin overload can really pack the filters (our lymphs).
Treatment outpaces detoxing
The dead debris and toxins are trapped once the abx hits them until they can be released so detoxing is critical. There are many different ways to detox.
If the headache is intolerable, you might talk w/ your LLMD about
stepping back your treatment a little bit, temporarily. A minor herx is to be expected as we incorporate new components of our protocol or increase doses, etc... but major herxing and for long periods is not conducive to healing - you have to measure the pace at which you are targeting the infection with how well you are able to flush the debris out of your body and try to match them both. Sometimes it takes a little experimentation with both.
Detoxing the brain:
- A binder is very helpful to pull the toxins out of the gut, since we now know of a strong gut/brain connection, pay close attention to what is going on in your GI as well - binders can do wonders to detox
- there are some good herbs to help detox the brain - I use Pinella and Parsley quite successfully.
Swelling/inflammation
You also might have a little swelling too - Japanese Knotweed is good for swelling.
Dehydration
Headaches are often triggered simply from dehydration and abx can be naturally dehydrating - so drink copious amounts of water throughout the day, have it next to your bed at night. Embrace the additional trips to the toilet - peeing is also very necessarily detoxing - the clearer your urine, the better you are hydrated and the healthier your detoxing is.
Yeast/fungal overgrowth
Another culprit of headaches is yeast/fungal overgrowth - the y/f creates neurotoxins including acetaldehyde and other toxins that cause headaches.
Sinus issues
(Probably since you just started an abx and it is likely that has some connection to it but posting about
sinuses here for others who may have headache issues:
Sinus issues
The pain in the facial area is commonly sinus pain - this could be from a sinus infection or swelling/inflammation. The infection could be bacterial or fungal. Often the sinus mucus membranes get dried out, which can allow bacterial or fungal infections to grow.
Hope this is helpful but if not--keep posting!
