Took my son for Igenex draw today

I took my 16 year old son for an Igenex blood draw this morning. He tested positive for Babesia last year, but negative for Lyme on a standard Western Blot. He has been very uncooperative about taking his herbs, so I'm hoping the Lyme comes up positive through Igenex and helps him to take this all more seriously. His symptoms are very minor, but they are there.

But here's something kind of scary. His blood was drawn at my naturopath's office, because the local lab was bought out by Quest, and Quest refuses to draw for Igenex. That in itself is kind of scary. But what REALLY concerned me, is that the waiting room was FULL of boys about my son's age. At least 6 young men came in during the 15 minutes we were there. This naturopath has developed a reputation as the go-to person for tick-borne infections around here, so I can only assume that many (most) of these young men were there for Lyme testing? We are in Connecticut, less than 30 minutes away from Lyme.

How many young people's lives are getting off to a horrible start due to these infections? How many young people are struggling with "mysterious" health issues who have NO idea what's going on? Sad and scary!

When your son's symptoms get really bad he will do anything to get better.

And, I also wonder how many people have lyme and are walking around being sick. Sad, very sad.

Yes it is frightening! Our DS has Lyme, myco and babesia plus who knows what else. When I took his first LLMD prescription to our local Costco in the mid-Atlantic, they knew exactly who it was from so I asked if they had lots of patients from this dr and they said yes. Truly frightening. There are lots of LLMDs in our larger metro area and this one is quite well-known but is not located in our "city".

Hoping you get some answers soon. From my research it's rare to have just one tick disease although we think our DS had at least Lyme for a few years before a bite that sent him over the cliff 1.5 years ago.

We are experiencing medicine fatigue in our household but then a new crazy symptom arises we have to deal with and he seems willing again to get more fully on board. It's plain exhausting for me but to see our kids figuring out how to cope during these already tough years, it is criminal, heartbreaking, frustrating and lonely.

Yep, the problem is that he doesn't feel sick enough to be motivated to eat healthier and take his meds. He is increasingly withdrawn, doesn't have nearly the energy or stamina that he should have for his age. Plus he had a positive Babesia antibody test. I don't know how many times I've tried to talk to him about what the bugs could be doing inside his body, and how he might one day simply crash, as I did. He has watched me suffer--and it got bad. You'd think that'd be motivation enough...

Of course, it doesn't help that the diagnosis was made by a naturopath and his father, my ex, is downplaying it as unreliable. It was a standard medical lab that identified the Babesia antibodies! So frustrating! But there's no reasoning with some people.

Thank you, yancync--I'm really hoping for a positive Lyme test from Igenex. If he sees a positive Lyme test, maybe he'll take things more seriously--BEFORE he has suffered for years with mysterious medical symptoms, then experiences a life-altering crash years later, like I did.

Well, if he has a positive test for Lyme and starts abx, then as I'm sure you know, babesia will also rear its ugly head and then he will have no choice but to start taking it more seriously because he will be so sick. I hear from my sibs that 16 was a hard year for their sons - they are withdrawn, more quiet, less active - even when they aren't sick.

I think it is their teen "invincible" brain fighting with an unknown issue. Yesterday, DS said "I laughed it off when I heard it was Lyme, but I had NO idea all this would happen." As far as diet - that is something I have educated DS on but just can't push right now with all the other stuff. I think he may come around over time but he just doesn't have the capacity to handle it right now - just the meds/supplements (barely) and detoxing.

Baby steps...
