Wow do I have a lot of wind. I added Biaxin to the Ceftin yesterday. All last night was tummy rumbling and lots of "thunder from down under". Thank the Lord im single! I take this is natural on abx? Or was it something I ate?

I have no idea, but I am still young enough to think gas is funny. lol

I think what is happening is you are cleaning out some bacteria in your gut.

Make sure you keep your bowels moving even if you need to take some fiber.

I have a girlfriend that thinks fiber is a salad. It has taken me months to educate her on what fiber is. She still doesn't get it.

Ha! of course farts are funny. Thank GOD something in life is still funny.

trader—are you on an anti fungal? Gas is a classic sign of yeast/fungal overgrowth… you might need to nip that in the bud - don't want it to get worse.

LOL! I guess it is funny. My nose didnt think so last night though :) No Pirouette, im not on any anti fungals. For probiotics I am on saccharomyces boulardii, plan on adding one of the Renew Life probiotics here shortly. But nothing else that would be considered an anti fungal.

I get gassy from certain foods. Could that be the culprit?

I have often forgotten what I have eaten until I get gassy and am reminded.

Im not sure. I havent been getting enough fruits and vegetables, so they clearly wouldnt be the cause. Previous days food was limited due to work schedule and my sleep patterns I have been having lately(3-4hrs in evening besides all night). I believe I only ate 4 eggs, 3 pcs bacon, and toast for breakfast. Lunch was a italian sausage sandwich, just meat and bread. Supper was chicken and rice. Not much there that would give me gas usually.

too bad they can't propel my body to move around faster!

I think foods can trigger it. I get gassy from fried foods and sautéed onions... so, I don't eat them. Sometimes cheese made me gassy but I loved it too much to stop eating it. Of course that was before lyme & co.

Trader- for what it's worth, when my sister was on Cefdinir (now she's off b/c it was way too hard on her system), she had really bad gas. It was actually also quite painful for her. I gave her fennel and that seemed to help. We got it from iherb. I think the dose was 1, 3x per day, but we had to go up to 2, 3x per day. Now that she's off the Cefdinir, gas isn't really a problem anymore. We also tried Hyland's gas remedy and that also seemed to help.

Ceftin gave me loose, black stools - can't remember if I also had gas from it.

lol....I wish! I was sleeping and the first woke me up. I thought I was dreaming about when me and my ex fiance had a dog who passed gas regularly. I thought I dont have a dog! Then I was wide awake when I realized it was me. I buried my head under the pillow, "flapped" the covers, finally discarded the covers, turned up the heat and grabbed the air freshener from the bathroom. It was a long night let me tell ya..lol.

congrats on the modship! I shortened your list to make it easier. A bunch of these as you said can be from Lyme and co's, also Hashimotos which I have. But everything has been the same recently, except adding the antibiotics.

OK - let me ask q's from a different angle since it is hard to pinpoint y/f issues:
I'm assuming the list you shortened are your sx?
Did you have any of them before you started tx?
Are you taking a total of 3 abx now?
Did you ever implement any anti fungal when you started the abx?

Yes those are my symptoms, besides the numerous others associated with Lyme and Bart. I had all of those before starting abx. Still only on Ceftin and Biaxin. I add Bactrim tomorrow, half tab at first, which im scared of, I had a reaction once to Bactrim....I think. It was during a period of panic attacks so I cant be sure. No, I have never started antifungals during this time. The gas seems better today. But ive never had it as bad in the past. Which makes me think it was the abx. But again, today is much better, so not sure.

Antibiotics are not only killing bad bacteria in your gut (and elsewhere) but also killing good bacteria. I suggest a probiotic to replace the good bacteria.

The saccharomyces boulardii you are taking only has 5 billion strains. I suggest one with 50 billion. I don't think your probiotic is working well because it is lacking.

The ReNew Life you plan on going to will be so much better because I do believe that it has 50 billion.

I think you got gas because you lack a proper probiotic.

Thanks PeteZa. The Renew Life Ultimate Flora is 14 strains, 80 billion. But may have to put that off a week or two. Did finances and im short $450 this month. Ya know, there really needs to be change. I dont wanna go on a rant here, but darn it im filing bankruptcy. These last 2 yrs drained me something awful. And seems theres no help for us. Just so frustrating.

I'm so sorry about the finances. It is so wrong that this is happening.

I haven't worked since the end of 2013...and it's tough...Thankfully, I am married and my husband is able to support us....well almost. We really need a second income.

Thanks Girlie. No need be sorry though. We're all in this together. We understand best what we all go through. Finance being just one of those issues. Our priorities need to lay with education and political activism. But theres no denying finance is a heavy burden. I think once these meds kick in, which im already noticing some positives, ill be alright. I really feel for the folks worse off than me. Im single but make $24/hr. To know there are others on disability or living on poverty wages is disheartening. There are times I really wish I could help others. But I cant. All I can do is make good use of my positive days and try to put a smile on someones face, whether they have the disease or not. Not only does it help them, it makes me feel great too. I have enough why mes and who would want me in this condition that I make it a point to add some positive to all the negative. Still, would be great to have some government help during these stressing times.

Ugghhh... I am so sorry this mess is also straining your finances - I know that drill very well. Thanks to the medical industry's negligence (yup - I'm calling it like I see it) everything I built up and carefully planned and sacrificed for is GONE. But I'll save that rant for another day. Sometimes I fear I will never come back from that particular rant. It's a dark place.

There is some info in the "new to lyme?" thread regarding financial support - not sure if they would be useful to you but I'd check them out.

OK, to be sure I understand, you had all of these sx before abx but only the gas is worse since starting abx?

When did you start on the probiotic?

So, as PeteZa explained, the abx are wiping out the good bacteria, which keeps yeast/fungus in balance. For some of us, that's a HUGE trigger for yeast/fungal overgrowth and it doesn't bother other people as much. If you've never had y/f issues before abx, that may suggest you won't struggle with it too much while on abx as long as you take certain precautions.But as you know, anything goes with this crazy treatment and you could be developing a y/f issue since your immune system is already burdened.

It's good that you're on a probiotic but it's not just saccharomyces boulardii you need. We have millions of gut bacteria and countless good bacteria that gets wiped out so it's impossible to truly replace what we're losing w/ probiotics but the higher number of strains you can take, the better. Garden of Life has 34 strains. And according to my gastro, you should also be taking at least 100 billion while you're on abx.

You might even try to get probiotics from fermented foods - several posters here are eating a wide variety of interesting foods that have natural probiotics in them, which is really the best source of probiotics so maybe do a search.

So - here's the kicker: depending on when you started on the probiotic, it could also be causing the gas due to y/f die off. If you were taking a better probiotic, I'd say it's possible to manage the y/f growth with it as long as you caught it early - but I'm not sure that's the case with you - will see how you answer.

If you already have a y/f overgrowth problem then even the better probiotic probably isn't going to be enough to bring it back into balance (although you should still take it). If in a few days after switching probiotics the gas is still an issue - let us know and we can suggest a good anti fungal protocol. You'll want to get the y/f under control ASAP or you will quickly have compounded problems moving forward with your treatment.

So - let me know your answers to the first couple of q's and we'll get this worked out...

Sorry I didnt respond further. No, I havent taken a probiotic besides saccharomyces boulardi yet. I do drink kefir daily though. Money is tight! The gas has disipated. So not sure whats up.

Your body was finally able to grow enough bacteria/yeasts to handle your sulfur load. I.E., the foods you are eating aren't causing as much hydrogen sulfide gas production. When eating high sulfur containing foods and lacking the proper GI flora, gas production occurs. Yeasts AND gram negative anaerobes cause hydrogen sulfide gas production.

Check to see if your Rx plan covers prescription strength VSL#3 DS, and if yes, what is the co-pay. High quality probiotics use to be one of my biggest costs. The DS strength is just over 900 million cultures per powdered packet. You could measure out maybe 1/8 to 1/4 of a packet per day to stretch your budget.

I only added Sacchro Boullarii (Froristor brand) to VSL#3 when I had antibiotic associated diarrhea, and weaned off of it when stool was normal to reduce costs.

Yes, I had a reaction of some sort years ago with bactrim. Cant remember exactly what though, just that my GP has it down as not to prescribe. But my LLMD did and so far, beside the short period of bad gas, am doing well. Did notice starting yesterday that my mouth seems awful dry. Not sure what could cause that.
