My daughter (Heather) has not had any lyme or coinfection symptoms for 6 years, and we consider her to be "cured". I don't like the word "remission", as the medical definitions seem to carry the negative connotation that there will likely be a future relapse.
She has had some of the normal shoulder issues that long term swimmers often have, but she has always recovered without surgery.
Heather also had a bad concussion last November. Unfortunately she had some lingering symptoms until recently. We took her for a short 2 day visit to the Hansa Center in April. Dr. Jowdy diagnosed her with with "post concussion syndrome". He said that her brain has healed but that the blood and lymphatic flow was sluggish on the left side of her head, neck, and upper torso. He treated her over those 2 days and sent her home with an herbal remedy.
Dr. Jowdy stressed that the symptoms that she was experiencing were entirely new and NOT related to the past lyme. We had Heather blood tested by a conventional MD prior to taking her to the Hansa Center. All immune tests were within normal range, but of course, she still is CDC positive on the Western Blot. Inflammation markers were within normal range.
We spoke to Dr. Jernigan who is the physician that originally cured Heather 6 years ago. He recommended that she receive brain wave treatments at a clinic located near where she goes to college. The Hansa Center also now performs those treatments, but there wasn't enough time for the treatments due to only being there for 2 days. Heather received the treatments and responded very well so far. I will be reporting on brainwave technology in a month or 2 after the full value of the treatments have been realized.
My conclusion is that Heather's severe and debilitating bout of LD and coinfections has not seemed to make her more vulnerable to injuries to her body. The reason is that Heather has received various superior treatments that eclipsed her body's ability to simply heal itself. There is no way that she would be where she is today, if we had only focused on the goal of achieving "remission".
